Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

A book that will touch your heart deeply
Revisado: 11-13-23
I am such a fan of James McBride. Every book I’ve read of his has a message of depth and weight and huge heart. This is no exception. Characters that are as complex as real human beings, lots of shades of gray as well as clear cut issues. Hope you give a listen. The narrator definitely does it justice; he is as excellent in his talents as the author is in his.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

100 Stars!!!!!
Revisado: 12-19-22
If I could give this book a thousand stars, that’s what I would rate it. The book is great, a masterpiece, for so many reasons I am not capable of describing or explaining. It will break your heart in the most exquisite way, and you will love every second of its breaking. Perhaps more accurate to say it will break your heart OPEN — for the people, the place, life, its painful struggles and sufferings, and — okay going to stop here as I’m getting into territory where my words fall woefully short. Just know it’s a MUST read, MUST listen. Oh and you will fall deeply in love with the narrator.

Worthy of 10 stars
Revisado: 03-30-22
I would rate this book as 10 stars if I could. It is of course excruciatingly painful to read but also uplifting, as befits the experience of the extreme oppression and attempted destruction of black people in America. And it needs to be painful to read. And Colson Whitehead does a brilliant job of evoking that pain from the hearts and souls of human beings. How could it be otherwise when the ugly damnable truth is so powerfully set forth.

Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors - and the items stolen from her family were never recovered. Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Fun, Intriguing Story. Unpredictable. Worthwhile listen. You won’t regret listening to Coben’s questionable protagonist. Yet another excellent of my Harlan Coben guilty pleasure reads hee hee.

Historia
At first, the case of the bodies found in a Moscow park looked straightforward: a "troika", probably three on a bottle, drunk together and then frozen to death together in the brutal Russian night. But Chief Homicide Investigator Arkady Renko hits a sharp and complicated turn with the arrival of the KGB's Pribluda. Suddenly, his access to a routine investigation is blocked. Why?

Just too dated
Revisado: 04-03-17
Obviously this is a sophisticated piece of literature, complex plot, characters with a lot of depth and conflicting motivations like real people. But it's just so dated that it's not interesting anymore. Sorry.
The narrator was okay. The main problem was he didn't change his voice much with the different characters so it was often hard to tell which character was speaking.

Mysteries Can Be Fun!
Revisado: 04-12-16
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sarcasm and wit with their mysteries. It was a good story, intriguing mystery, and fun because of the never ending sarcasm. It was original, creative, witty and fun sarcasm, not dark, mean spirited sarcasm. Have fun! I didn't give the story 5 stars only because it's not a high literary novel like a Tale of Two Cities or Les Miserables haha. Sorry David Rosenfelt. But still thoroughly enjoyed. Also Grover Gardner was delightful.
