Historia
On the morning of April 26, 1986, Europe witnessed the worst nuclear disaster in history: the explosion of a reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Soviet Ukraine. Dozens died of radiation poisoning, fallout contaminated half the continent, and thousands fell ill. In Chernobyl, Serhii Plokhy draws on new sources to tell the dramatic stories of the firefighters, scientists, and soldiers who heroically extinguished the nuclear inferno. He lays bare the flaws of the Soviet nuclear industry....

This was a really great history. A disaster like this, or any other big disaster, is not a technical one only. This covers it all

I had to go to 1.5 speed and he was barely a normal speed. The book is just like some sort of fever dream or random things. I struggled to find a theme. I made it two thirds through and gave up. It made me feel like a zoom meeting

Historia
Detouring from the traditional timeline of marriage-kids-house, 26-year-old Vikki Warner skips straight to homeownership. She buys a run-down three-story house in Providence, Rhode Island, and suddenly finds herself responsible for a rotating cast of colorful tenants. Adulthood comes with unforeseen challenges: backed-up sewage, gentrification, global economic downturn. Tenemental is a candid portrait of how sharing space profoundly reshapes our lives, and forces us to grow into ourselves.

Enjoyable lite read
Revisado: 06-14-23
I did like it. It was hard to get going and it was not what I expected but in the end it was a story of a woman leading her life. It was not epic but it was someone who lived her path and shared it well

Excellent with a petty complaint
Revisado: 08-24-19
I really liked it and thought that it might be hard with a narrator who was known. But not at all. My complaint....after 40 hours of book, do we really need stupid sappy music played over top of the last 45 seconds the book? Is this an after school special!?

Historia
The author could be described as a veteran in every sense of the word, even though he was only age 21 when the war ended. Armin Scheiderbauer served as an infantry officer with the 252nd Infantry Division, German army, and saw four years of bitter combat on the Eastern Front, being wounded six times. This is an outstanding personal memoir, written with great thoughtfulness and honesty.

Different and enjoyable personal account
Revisado: 07-27-19
I really like the book and the narration. I peaked at some of the other reviews when I finished and was surprised at the negative ones. This is not an academic tome. This is his experience. I liked all the things that some of the others didn’t. It’s personal air made it an easy casual listen. It takes you places the typical WW2 book doesn’t and the narrator is animated and entertaining. Would recommend for those who are looking to branch out on this subject

Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

Historia
James Joyce revolutionized twentieth-century writing with his "stream of consciousness" technique. While ingeniously innovative and experimental, he was also a keenly precise chronicler of the people, places, and sounds of his native Dublin. In Dubliners, a cast of 15 internationally famous stage and screen actors perform stories that make up a brilliant journey over a human landscape that captures the bleakest of despair to the most blinding of epiphanies.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.
