engaging story...
Revisado: 04-14-24
Good listen and gave a lot on insight to the subject of hoarding. My only issue was the weakness and gullibility of the main character Her inability to see the obvious and how easy she was to manipulate was tiresome. Aside from the wimpy main character, it was a good listen. Xe Sands delivers, as always.

but, the ending seemed rushed. Actor spent a lot of time building up the tension between the characters and then it just ended... seemed too easy and contrived. but kudos for the story. It kept me interested. Worth the listen.

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

interesting (at best) "who done it"
Revisado: 12-21-23
This one had a lot of unexpected twists and turns and held my interest, but something about it just didn't work for me. The takeaway is. 1. for sure not compelling enough to ever want to read again. 2. Not a single likable character in the entire book. Everyone was either naive to the point of unbelievability, duplicitous, or self serving. Even the kids were whiny and annoying. Slater always spins a good yarn, but this time. the characters were so vapid that I almost didn't care who the "good guys" were. The narrator was excellent as always. The book was good/ok, I'm happy it was a bargain, If I had used an entire credit, I would have been disappointed.

what did I just listen to?
Revisado: 10-11-23
Great build up and held my attention and then.....*poof*. nothing... created more questions than it answered. It could be said that tales of this type force us to use our imagination and assume what happens.. but if I wanted to do that I would just write my own book, eh? Don't waste your time on this one. It was free and worth every penny.

I love love love romance novels. I tried to suffer through this one. By the third chapter the inane, juvenile dialog defeated me. I had to say enough.. I have no clue why there are so many positive reviews on this book. Save your time and credit and pass this one up. Rea;ly it is that bad

Total Downer... and it could have been so good
Revisado: 09-08-23
PROBABLE SPOILER: Thrillers and crime/noir are my favorite genre so this was just so disappointing. I was totally invested in the characters and was looking forward to the entire series and then the end... the ending of this book. I no longer care about the other characters. This was hardly about Simon He was, in fact a secondary character here. The favorite character is killed off and SHE was the one. (hoping as I was for a connection between her and Simon) that kept me wanting more. I purchased the other books in the series. Returned them. Bad move, Susan Hill. what a waste of time. Its only redeeming value was the narration.

Fun Story...
Revisado: 08-20-22
Another fun listen from Lauren. You can count on likable characters and lots of steam. .. HOWEVER the female narrator is just irritating. I don't get the out of context inflection on every other word and odd uptick at the end of every sentence and it becomes so irritating it almost ruins the story. Overall it was an enjoyable listen and aside from the narration no negatives.

A fresh start. That's what Becca hoped the move from New York to Redemption, Wisconsin would be for her troubled family. A way to get her crumbling marriage back on track, and to bond with her difficult 16-year-old stepdaughter. But instead of a new beginning, Becca is thrust into a mysterious past she barely remembers. A past that includes the complications of interacting with her old teenage crush, Daniel, as well as living in her aunt's old house. A house with a violent past. A house the locals swear is haunted.

wanted to love it
Revisado: 04-25-22
This is one of my favorite genres so I had high hopes. I was, in fact looking forward to the entire series.. but, alas. I was about eight hours into it and had to just STOP. Unique story line, interesting plot and it could have been so great, but the main character is so weak, so indecisive, so passive and full of self doubt and full of angst about literally everything that I just no longer cared. Just uggghhhh.... I don't even know a woman that submissive and limp... just no. As much as I am always curious how a story wraps up, I can honestly say, I just plain didn't care if she went into a ravine.. ..sorry. I seem to be an outlier here, but as they say, it is what it is. I'm happy the book was free. I wish I could get my eight hours back. On a positive note the narrator was excellent.
