Historia
Pete Rose was a legend on the field. As baseball’s hit king, he shattered records that were thought to be unbreakable. And during the 1970s, he was the leader of the Big Red Machine, the Cincinnati Reds team that dominated the game. But he’s also the greatest player who may never enter the Hall of Fame because of his lifetime ban from the sport. Perhaps no other ballplayer’s story is so representative of the triumphs and tragedies of our national pastime.

Pete Rose Belongs in the H.O.F.!!!
Revisado: 05-21-23
Great book about one of the best players in baseball. Certainly the best post-1960 player. The book focuses greatly on his relationship and admiration for his dad, and the beginning of his career. Moves fairly quickly over his years with the “Big Red Machine” and virtually no mention of his gambling scandal. If you are wanting to learn about what motivates Pete Rose, and how Rose thinks then you will enjoy the book.

Great book with a good history of the vessel and it’s restoration. Also gives good background on many of the sailors, their tragic death, and eventual burial.

Great story and superb narration

The best book by far on Hank Williams. Gives great detail of the life of Hank Williams, without going into the minutia that ruins so many biographies.

Historia
In late October 1846, the last wagon train of that year's westward migration stopped overnight before resuming its arduous climb over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, unaware that a fearsome storm was gathering force. After months of grueling travel, the 81 men, women and children would be trapped for a brutal winter with little food and only primitive shelter. The conclusion is known: by spring of the next year, the Donner Party was synonymous with the most harrowing extremes of human survival.

Insightful
Revisado: 10-13-22
This is a great book. I have watch documentaries and read various articles on the Donner party, however I had no idea that things were as sad and tragic as they were. Other reviews are negative toward the narration, and I don’t understand that. It was not spectacular, but it was not terrible either. This is well worth the 9 or 10 hours of listening.

Historia
After he died in the backseat of a Cadillac at the age of 29, Hank Williams - a frail, flawed man who had become country music's first real star - instantly morphed into its first tragic martyr. Having hit the heights with simple songs of despair, depression, and tainted love, he would, with that outlaw swagger, become in death a template for the rock generation to follow.

Detailed book; awful narration.
Revisado: 08-28-21
The book goes into considerable detail;too much detail in fact. The book is as much about the songs of Hank Williams, as it is about the life of Hank. Just too much minutiae. As with all books on this subject, the story of Hank Williams is truly sad, amazing, and disturbing. It’s the prime example of greed, disloyalty, distrust, and an early demise.
The book did have certain details that I had never heard before. So, it’s worth the listen for that. But overall, the book was just too long, and focused on minor details. Finally, THE NARRATOR WAS TERRIBLE. He speaks like a robot and puts no emotion into the characters.

Historia
The publication of Rhett Butler's People marks a major and historic cultural event. Through the storytelling mastery of award-winning writer Donald McCaig, the life and times of the dashing Rhett Butler unfolds. Through Rhett's eyes we meet the people who shaped his larger than life personality as it sprang from Margaret Mitchell: Langston Butler, Rhett's unyielding father; Rosemary his steadfast sister; Tunis Bonneau, Rhett's best friend and a onetime slave; Belle Watling, the woman for whom Rhett cared long before he met Scarlett O'Hara at Twelve Oaks Plantation, on the fateful eve of the Civil War.

Not Worth It
Revisado: 07-25-21
This is a terrible book, and giving it even one star is overrating it. It is very factually different than GWTW. It’s almost like this author never even researched nor read the Margaret Mitchell classic. For instance, it is clear in GWTW, that Rhett was in the artillery. However, in this book, it is stated several times that Rhett was in the cavalry under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Additionally, it is stated in GWTW that Ashley lost Twelve Oaks for failure to pay taxes. In this book, Ashley returns to Twelve Oaks and attempts to revive it. These are just two examples of the inconsistencies Between the two books. The author in this book tries to intertwine all the characters in GWTW but he’s very sloppy. It’s almost as if he is trying to re-create the characters and redefine them. There are too many twists and turns to follow, and it’s almost as if he’s trying to copy Charles Dickens style.
I do not see how in the world this book was authorized and endorsed by the Margaret Mitchell estate. It is terrible, and if I could have given it 1/4 star I would have done so.
