Narration good except for gravel voice Pike.
Revisado: 03-13-25
Well paced story with characters that you care about. It's a popular series but I'd never read any of them before. Still it worked as a stand alone. It could have had a little more flesh out to the antagonists but in all the length of the story felt just right. I switched back and forth between Audible and the ebook. Both were very good. My only question about the Audible narrator is why did he make Joe pike's voice sound like a meme of Batman? I would highly recommend this book. If unlike me you're a person that likes to start at the beginning. You might ask a fan which book to read first. But if like me you're looking for a good entertaining detective novel this is a good one.

Wrap up of epic series!
Revisado: 01-19-25
pros: 1. fast paced story for most of the book. 2. Good wrap-up of Professor Fell, Hudson Greathouse and Matthew Corbet arc. 3. Good narrator. He read the story well but didn't insert himself with silly voices and kept interest in the story.
cons: 1. anti climatic ending. No spoilers. i just thought in my opinion the ending didn't match the buildup. 2. Story slowed down at the end and it felt like the author was adding filler.
Overall a good solid story to end the series and a nod to reincarnation without being heavy handed. If like me you're interested in the subject then this work of fiction threw a little bone. If you think it's ridiculous then nothing here is ruined for you. i gave it a 5 star overall for the characters and the (for the most part) optimistic ending.

walt & Henry always worth a read
Revisado: 12-24-24
pros: i could feel the cold artic wind. atmosphere and story provided some extra chill reading (listening) on a December evening.
cons: Really claustrophobic. I'm used to the modern West and quirky characters and the open range for Walt and Henry to play in. I can see where some people might enjoy this type story. But i just didn't feel any real passion for any of the characters. i didn't get to invested in any single characters story. The bear was just a killing machine and the villians in this artic story. well, they left me cold! see what i did there? cold. get it? i kill me!

will done fiction & speculative fiction.
Revisado: 11-08-24
Pros: Well done narration. Good pace, never bogged down. Famous case thrown in that worked alongside modern criminal case procedure. Surprising turn of events with a minor recurring character. The ending also sets up a continuation of main characters personal journey.
Cons: While certainly not perfect. There are no real flaws that hamper the story.

Good detective procedural.
Revisado: 08-15-24
Good atmosphere with a likable main character. Well narrated although the heavy Scottish accent was a challenge in places to my American ear. But the narrator fit the character and story. It wasn't overly complicated but still the reveal was interesting and not telegraphed to early. The only con for me is the author seemed to dance on the edge of politics and even though i lean a little left i'm worn out by the constant political jabs fiction writers seem to be taking these days. But he very skillfully pulled back and gave us a good story. i'll be checking out his other work.

Walt, Henry & not much Vic. win, win, win.
Revisado: 06-23-24
pro's:
1.Good Walt & Henry adventure from their youth
2.Good blending of two different stories.
3. Neither plot bogged down & made me want to skip forward.
4.keeping 2 plots interesting is an art. not every author can pull it off.
5. The character of Vic doesn't suck all the air out of the room. for a change.
Cons: As much as George Guidall is Walt Longmire (verbally speaking) for me. His age is showing in his delivery. He has to pause just slightly in mid sentence at times. As a person who is aging myself i mean no harm. While the book isn't perfect. it's still another entertaining saga and sets up for a farther story with a loose thread at the end.

very well told who done it. The story and characters are well developed. The writing is crisp and characters fleshed out without tedious repetitive backstory. The narration was well done in a very steady voice and didn't distract from the story with a lot of silly mimicking of female characters or accents.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Dark & yet bittersweet.
Revisado: 06-12-24
pros:
1.It's Stephen King
2.Main characters well developed.
3.Rattlesnakes packs chills.
4.Even in his 70's Stephen King still draws me around the campfire once the story starts.
Cons:
1. Will Patton's "Yankee" accent in the first story sounds like a loony tunes gangster trying to do a New England accent.
2. While the stories are good. Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream was a little over wordy.
3. Overall 4 Stars. 4 & 1/2 if Stephen King had read it himself.

Good narrator. Good tale. little over long.
Revisado: 05-05-24
pro's:
1. Good scary story.
2. well fleshed out characters
3. talented reader. i could tell Wireman by the tone of narrator.
cons:
1. A little over long. could have been a tighter book.
2. Telegraphing a death. Although that's typical King
overall a good scary story that has hints of an earlier King. where politics and snarky commentary don't distract from the tale
