Historia
Tetris is perhaps the most instantly recognizable, most popular video game ever made. But the fascinating story of its origins is lesser known. How did an obscure Soviet programmer working on frail, antiquated computers create a product that has earned nearly $1 billion in sales? How did an inspired makeshift game turn into a worldwide sensation that has been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art, inspired a Hollywood movie, and been played in outer space?

A Historical Account of a Beloved Video Game by Someone with No Love for Games or History
Revisado: 05-02-22
If you enjoy the irony of someone who seems to have 0 understanding of the impact of capitalism and corruption on USSR stability talking about a multi-million dollar deal in Soviet Moscow, this is the book for you.
If you like reading a book about a video game by someone who refers collectively to all previous video games as mindless entertainment for pre-teens, then you’ll love The Tetris Effect.
DNF, could not get past the author’s disrespect for Pajitnov (whose game he claims would be lost to the eighties as a dusty curio without the benevolent tech moguls of the West) and his disdain for breakthroughs in programming and play from Pong to Mario Brothers.
You can celebrate something without dismissing the marvels that came before it, and you can be critical of a time and place without ignoring all context. Was deeply looking forward to this read and just as deeply disappointed.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

A Human Story
Revisado: 01-05-19
What could have been written and performed as a sensational true-crime mystery- it's got sex, duplicity, and more than one mysterious death- Jon Ronson handled with dignity and tenderness so often absent from today's media. A poignant piece on the gray areas of human nature- few of us are ever completely one thing. Ronson captures the lovable in the unlikable, the repulsive in the darling, and everything in between. The fact he and his producer Lena truly respect and care about each of their subjects, regardless of career choice or any mental health diagnosis, shines through each chapter. My only criticism is of the recording- there appears to be a few glitches in the mixing/ mastering, the most noticeable of which takes place during Ronson's description of the length of time power was actually out at August and Lena's home toward the end. Beyond that, I loved it. I hope Audible features more of Jon and Lena's work in the future.

Informative and Accessible
Revisado: 08-06-18
This course provided well-organized, well-researched information about a wide range of topics on well-being. Useful for both providers and consumers of healthcare, this audio-book clearly explained all relevant terms, without seeming to be "dumbing things down" as many of the medically-centered courses seem to do. This course struck a perfect balance between being truly informative and being accessible to everyone, regardless of your health background. Would recommend to everyone who has a body!
