Historia
It's Ruwen’s Ascension Day, and he finally dies for the first time. His newly revived body can learn spells and abilities for the class given him by the Goddess Uru, and dying is no longer permanent. Ruwen’s high intelligence makes becoming a Mage inevitable. With his new powers, he will locate his parents and clear their family name. But nothing goes as Ruwen imagined, and when a rival God tries to kill Ruwen shortly after his disastrous Ascension, his focus turns from his future to just surviving.

I was wondering why people were writing scathing reviews but posting 4 and 5 stars. I think it's because audible makes you read low star reviews last, unless you filter for low stars. More sales for audible this way i guess. So much for looking at the star averages as part of my assessment of what books to buy. For those of you with the same pet peeves as me, let me help you out, here is my honest review with my one star scores changed to 5 stars:
There is an interesting story in there somewhere. The author almost pulls off conveying the MC as naïve and weak but plucky (that would be good). but instead it's annoying to listen to.
probably the biggest problem is the extreme OPness being balanced with pure dumbassery. A first level with healing rates that resemble a troll regenerating, COME ON! I'm ok with overpowered characters, they just take more creativity to keep interesting. But it's really unpleasant to follow a story when all the struggle is generated through epic levels of stupid. Mind you my suspension of disbelief is further hindered by the insistence that this is a character who is supposed to be the smartest and cleverest. Finally the fact that a god is actually working in the background to make him succeed, doesn't mean that the character being improbably rescued by things that strain belief is fun.
It's too bad because, there are a lot of things to love about this writing. If you can roll with moments of horrible Deus Ex Machina, then there is a great series here for you to enjoy. If not, swipe right!

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

The story has died. The only thing left is a squeaky, reluctant slash eager, basically virgin Harem, It's Soooooo Borrring! The slow build, squeaky Harem was never really the good part anyway. I wish I could say I stuck it out, the story got me to book 5 after all. But, but I only got to chapter 11ish and I didn't even hear it all. I kept falling asleep. Three Times! mind you. Oh and those awful squeaky things in my ear probably gave me nightmares. If i want to listen to something that puts me to sleep, Ill get a white noise machine.

Well....
Revisado: 08-11-21
1/4 of the way into the book, I was pissed and planning to write a review titled, "Lazy Author!" before asking for my credit back.
It's not, because the MC is handed unlimited power and can do whatever the fuck he wants, always succeeding, always winning, etc. although aspects of that got annoying. It's that the author gave no real depth to the way things worked. I could not listen and say to myself, "yeah that makes sense for how magic works in that world and what the MC's powers are." This, "Grand fantasy," of great power and freedom in a new world falls hollow and fails to satisfy. It's like a body with no skeleton to hold it up. Then I realized, that power he didn't explain is basicly from that other book I read, oh and this ability is from those other books. I got even more annoyed!. BUT, then I finished the book! (didnt think that was going to happen!). And I'm not returning it!
Why did I keep listening? good question, not entirely sure myself, but the author created some real moments in this book. I laughed, I even almost cried. I'm not negating what i said before. however the way his powers matched what other books have fleshed out took on a sort of haiku quality after a while (he only gave me 17 syllables of explanation, but I could could flesh it it from past readings). I wouldn't suggest putting it on the top of your reading list, but if you are desperate for the next read it this particular genre, you and I both know you could do far, FAR worse!

Love the story, and the narrator is great, except for one thing. I might actually quit the series if I have to listen to her mispronounce Antimony for an entire book.

It's a different take on the genre, and there may be a good story under the bizarre use of language.
BUT, it wasn't engaging enough to get past the ambiguous, Frankenstein monster sentences used.

I love the Budhist main character, But I may appreciate that more than others who aren't Budhist. This author managed to take little bits of magic and make the whole story feel magical. More than that, the life I was escaping from in this story feels a little more magical on my return to it. I'm still not happy the story ended, though.

Well written, good dialogue, good narration. The humanity and dialogue made a story I would normally be bored with, worthwhile.
