Historia
Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

History without the frills
Revisado: 07-23-20
Prof. Gallagher lays it all out on the table, just the facts, no subjectivity or opinions. He leaves it to you, the audience, to determine your interpretations for yourselves. Would and will relisten for certain.

Historia
This comprehensive series of 84 lectures features three award-winning historians sharing their insights into this nation's past-from the European settlement and the Revolutionary War through the Civil War, 19th-century industrialization, two world wars, and the present day. These lectures give you the opportunity to grasp the different aspects of our past that combine to make us distinctly American, and to gain the knowledge so essential to recognizing not only what makes this country such a noteworthy part of world history, but the varying degrees to which it has lived up to its ideals.

Exceptional
Revisado: 06-16-17
As good a lecture series as any given the breadth of the material and the detail with which it is discussed.
I particularly liked the last lecturer, who ironically was an English fellow. He was very knowledgeable and very animated at times which made the lectures very enjoyable.

Military history often highlights successes and suggests a sense of inevitability about victory, but there is so much that can be gleaned from considering failures. Study these crucibles of history to gain a better understanding of why a civilization took - or didn't take - a particular path.

Fascinating and well told
Revisado: 05-02-17
There are many aspects of historical military tragedies that I had not considered before enjoying these lectures, such as lack of strategic adaptability or foresight. This series is taught authoritatively and effectively, but not without passion. Professor Aldrete has put much thought into his selection of the greatest military blunders and has delivered an enthralling glimpse into these unfortunate events.

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

Great Revolutionary War history!
Revisado: 04-21-17
A glorious book and reading of the onset of the War for Independence. Narration is not too fast but not at all boring either. The history itself is as gripping as any novel I have listened to.

Historia
Among the autobiographies of great military figures, Ulysses S. Grant’s is certainly one of the finest, and it is arguably the most notable literary achievement of any American president: a lucid, compelling, and brutally honest chronicle of triumph and failure. From his frontier boyhood, to his heroics in battle, to the grinding poverty from which the Civil War ironically rescued him, these memoirs are a mesmerizing, deeply moving account of a brilliant man told with great courage.

An American legend
Revisado: 04-21-17
A fascinating look into the life of the man who saved the Union, straight from the horse's mouth. The writing was dry at times, though the performance by Robin Field was very well done. I could almost imagine U.S. Grant himself telling his story. He has detailed not only his early life and experiences, but his strategic planning and execution of those plans as well. This is a must read (or must listen) for any avid military history buff. Catch a glimpse into how the Confederacybwas carefully and deliberately brought to its knees.
