Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Great Book for anyone into the 80s or Geek culture
Revisado: 11-11-14
The book is amazing. I could really see in my head what was going on as the author paints a great picture of the world and events within this book. This has made it to the number 1 slot in my favorite books list. The story takes place in around the year 2040-2050. The energy crisis and over population have made the world a horrible place to live so everyone instead lives and works in a virtual reality world called The Oasis. The creator of the world dies and issues a challenge to find the Easter eggs within the world and unlock 3 gates to gain control of the virtual world and his vast fortune. In order to do this, egg hunters called "gunters" musts throw themselves into 80s and geek culture to learn how the mind of the creator worked and solve his riddles. As a result the society becomes obsessed with the 80s. 5 Years after the challenge no one has unlocked the first riddle and found the first key until Wade Watz a high school student and gunter figures it out. Catapulted into rock-star fame and fortune he must battle an evil corporation to win this ultimate prize and keep the oasis free and open. This is a wonderful book that makes you want to step inside.
Wil Wheaton does a great job narrating the book and making each character come to life. I believe he adds to this book something you would no have gotten from the book having simply read it.

A lot of success wisdom in one book.
Revisado: 07-16-13
I've been going through a hard time in my life. I've listened to almost every success and wealth creation book and podcast, set out and struck out on 3 different businesses over the past 12 years, losing a lot of money and hit a point in my life where I want to give up. Resign to be ordinary like many people before me and not shoot for something great. In the midst of this I stumbled on this book the day it was released. That moment happened to be one of my lowest points and I was looking for some sort of inspiration to keep going. That's what this book brought to me. I'm a big fan of Bear Grylls, and his work on man vs. wild. Simply who the author was got me to take a chance on the book in a genre I felt burnt out in. While I can say there are a lot of books out there that cover the same content, it's his perspective that real appealed. The way he backs up the content with his stories and experiences helps bring life to what seemed like old hat concepts to me. In the end the greatest take ways for me are the need to be more cheerful in my life, seek to strive towards something I love doing and to refocus on each individual steps and break down bigger goals into smaller pieces no matter if you are climbing a mountain, or a mountain of debt. This book may not be for everyone but it certainly felt like it was meant for me. Hope is a powerful thing and more then anything else that's what I got from this book. The challenges life brought to me in the two weeks following reading this book proved to be more difficult then I ever thought two weeks could be but had I not read this book I don't think I could have hung in there through it all. I am grateful to Bear to share his story and hope someday I can meet him in person to tell him that. Until then this review will have to do. I highly recommend it to anyone struggling to figure out how to keep moving forward in life when you feel like the odds are against you.
