Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Good story, bad accents
Revisado: 05-10-19
The story is excellent if you can get past the bad Irish and Scottish accents.

Historia
Vermont, 1950. There's a place for the girls whom no one wants - the troublemakers, the illegitimate, the too smart for their own good. It's called Idlewild Hall. And in the small town where it's located, there are rumors that the boarding school is haunted. Four roommates bond over their whispered fears, their budding friendship blossoming - until one of them mysteriously disappears.... Vermont, 2014. As much as she's tried, journalist Fiona Sheridan cannot stop revisiting the events surrounding her older sister's death.

Good plot but cardboard characters
Revisado: 12-22-18
The narrator is amazing. The plot, especially with the supernatural addition, was good. However, the characters are cringeworthy cliché. The motives of most of the characters are unclear because there’s no depth. Cops versus journalists sums up the whole good vs bad power struggle. The end seemed far- reached because the characters never had enough personality to have true motives for their actions. Don’t waste your credit. You will be disappointed.

Historia
In August of 1588, a Spanish fleet of 130 ships departed from La Coruña under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidonia. Its purpose was to rendezvous with the Spanish army at the Dutch port of Sluys. At this point, the fleet was to act as a screen while the Spanish army was shuttled across the English Channel in barges. But there was one problem: the English fleet. Though much smaller than the Spanish fleet, it was a demonstrably superior fighting force of sailors, ships, naval technology, and guns.

Great for history lovers
Revisado: 09-24-18
This book is wonderfully crafted and it’s performance is exquisite. Mattingly writes the events leading up to, during, and after the battle of the Armada as if it were a novel. I had to read this book for a sea power history class. The only reason I did not give 5/5 stars is because of the small amount of resources and strangely constructed bibliography in the written text. However it’s worth a listen for non analytical purposes!!

Romantic, mysterious and tragic
Revisado: 05-25-16
Amazing! It invokes so much emotion. Like a Greek tragedy, no one is left unscathed. The author knits a story with twists and turns that wraps up beautifully... The only thing that bugged me was the American accents, they were very harsh and whiny to listen to but I understand how difficult it can be to slip in and out of accents as a reader. Overall 5/5! (Be prepared to cry)

Historia
Before the ink was dry on the U.S. Constitution, the establishment of a permanent military had become the most divisive issue facing the new government. Would a standing army be the thin end of dictatorship? Would a navy protect American commerce against the Mediterranean pirates, or drain the treasury and provoke hostilities with the great powers? The founders, particularly Jefferson, Madison, and Adams, debated these questions fiercely and switched sides more than once.

I really appreciated the authors performance. This book was required for my course... Not something I would usually read.
