Historia
At the end of the 24th century, war is fought in a civilized manner: Each side hires mercenaries to engage in combat in specifically designated areas. To the victor go the spoils - whatever they maybe. After a couple of assignments involving more intrigue and skullduggery than the Cutter Force Initiative ever wanted, the unit is looking forward to being part of a straight-up, short-term industrial war on Earth.

Superb follow up
Revisado: 05-05-23
Honestly thought very little could equal Mr Perry’s Matador series…while not wrong, the overall feel for characters is just as rich and satisfying. While it doesn’t look like there’s to be another in this series, I have hope that’s incorrect.
One of the things that make Mr Perry’s works so enjoyable is the ability of his characters to bring their life into the readers/listeners. Thank you.

ok add-on to A Discovery of Witches
Revisado: 03-15-22
only ok. expands upon the story of A Discovery of Witches, but goes into rather boring detail about two of the least interesting characters in the books and especially, the TV series. too much history review, too little story of what's happening with Diana and Mathew. too much "insight" into becoming a weir.
have read the first three in this series twice. watched the TV series more (even with the mis-representation of the characters from the books, not uncommon, but still). put this book down several times and am struggling with simply removing it from wasted memory. in fact, had this been a standalone book, would not have finished it.
as a progression of the Witches series, it's ok, but please focus on a story and characters we can care about. and don't make it like reading the evening "news."

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

TV show varies
Revisado: 01-03-22
Tv show varies a good deal from the books. The tv actors do such a good job of character portrayal that it’s almost like the books are a poor adaptation of the show. The books expand Ms Harkness’s world and yield a richer background that the narrative does a great job displaying. But I like the actors’ tv characters better!
Read, listen and watch. Most excellent entertainment.

Required reading for Man Who Never Missed fan

Absolutely in the style and thorough story telling of Mr Perry’s Matador series. Generous character development, with people, places and ideas reminiscent of the Heinlein era of fiction which feels factual. Historical retelling of the origin of the 97 Steps. Thank you.

Historia
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 03-07-21
Expection was high for this book, and was amply rewarded. Mr Weber and his works are simply classic science fiction on an equal standing with the best of Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, Smith, the best of entertainment.
Mixing mythology, AI, military mystique, space opera and a cast of characters that are believably unbelievable is indescribable. This story suspends reality in a manner that makes the extraordinary... mundane, “oh, I know that” casualness. It makes you believe flying cars are just something you know exist, are as ordinary as a horse drawn carriage or that fire burns. It just is.
There are scenes here that make the eyes tear up both in story telling and in the reality of just what the military can and often do, for civilians and themselves.
Ms Leheny does a wonderful job. Her voice and characterizations of Mr Weber’s words is exemplary. Emotional highs and lows are brought out and made real. Thank you.
And thank you Mr Weber for characters and a story that are a joy. There seems to be no bounds to your creativity. Stay healthy sir. Write more. 24/7 is not enough! Both thumbs up!!

Richly entertaining. Worthy of Heinlein
Revisado: 10-01-18
One of the most enjoyable romps in SciFi for a long time. I started my initial baptism into SciFi, indeed, reading, just because of RAH and HSsWT. Robinson acknowledges his own bias and does what any writer worth reading should do...entertain us, the readers. And he does! Thank you.
