Historia
Years ago, Lindon left his home as a powerless Unsouled. Now, he goes to war with the most powerful beings in the world over the future of Cradle itself. The Weeping Dragon has a grudge to settle, and Lindon intends to take out the Dreadgod with his friends by his side. But rival Monarchs know his plans, and they won’t let things end so easily. If Lindon does win, he will ascend to the heavens. But he may not find a safe haven there either.

CHILL BRO!
Revisado: 08-15-23
I will begin by saying I found that early on Travis was giving every other character too much Azrael. It didn't fit and felt quite lazy on his part.
The main story was fight after fight after fight as others have said. I'm a fan of fights but my big issue is the inability to let us grasp the increase in strength over time.
Lindon might consume a lot of power. Then instead of telling us what he is consuming and how he is adopting it into himself, the process is ignored. Then the cycle of fighting/growth repeats only for us to still be left confused as to where his powers stand.
We are just supposed to accept he is just "stronger". And the off scene shit pisses me off.
Later in the book we find out Lindon made himself a dread god battle suit. He suddenly has copies of wavedancer. He has multiple shields etc. Even the silent king's ring was the most random power up that got no airtime.
By the end of the book Will Wight is in such a rush to finish he couldn't even allow Lindon to impart all his gifts to his friends.
Ziel was supposed to get a shield. We know Lindon had three but Ziel was never presented one.
The whole installation of the Labyrinth on Azrael's small world is also ignored. We've no idea how his power works there. If it gave that part of the world wind aura that was lacking.
Another big topic was Lindon becoming more like subject #1 and potentially being taken over.
When we'd last discussed it the whiteness had spread from his arm further into his body. Thus we assumed post all dread god deaths he would awaken with a fully subject 1 like body.
I may have been asleep or distracted but all they mention is him being wrapped up in bandages. No mention of the current state of advancement of his dread god body.
This leaving out of detail is what would piss me off from time to time. There are things to track and he goes "Nah fam, I'm good".
The 2 years that had passed supposedly after crew had ascended and left Lindon. What in the hell did Lindon do in those two years and why weren't we privy to that information?
And how exactly did Lindon get his "hunger under control?" when all we were shown was him consuming another guy and then suddenly being able to ascend.
If doesn't make any sense. The crew when accepted to the reaper division aren't given ranks. No assessment of battle strength. No telling us what exactly the armors prepared by Azrael help them do. No automatic upgrades to Dross was given by Azrael to the crew nor go og Dross later on.
This whole storyline of how the Abedon are bad and they limit the growth of individuals was also brought up for no good reason.
Suddenly by the end Lindon has the abilities of Surriel. How long it took him, if he needed special tools, if he was granted authorities. We never know. We are just supposed to nod our head. We don't even know how tough the enemy, it could be his very first mission as a reaper.
We don't know. Was that ring an actual proposal? Why did Yerrin ignore it and just oggle it?
How do dreadgods and ascended monarchs have children?
Will wight teased Lindon eventually having a bloodline gift. Is that gift a natural 2 cores? Pretty lame if so.
What happens to Mercy/Ziel. Do they marry? Have kids?
Also I recall the mad king had the Abedon in a headlock. How did that suddenly turn around and news of the mad king and his forces cease to exist?
Many such issues.

Lackluster character development.

I mean it was enjoyable enough. But that I mean that I was brought in by the cool book cover with the cool guy and the glowing ball of plasma energy in his hand.
But the rest was meh. I enjoyed the book and wasn't truly bored until maybe the few end chapters.
Something about the fight scenes gave me no suspense or excitement.
No character was really lovable or enjoyable to listen to. I never had a pov character where I went "yesss this chapter is gonna be fun" or what have you.
Still. I'm a sucker for superpowers.

Dnf at chapter 40. I love necromancers. I don't love reading about a guy who is unliked, has a troubled past and a shitty personality.
I don't like reading a fantasy book which barely has any excitement.
I don't like a book starting strong and boring you to death later on. All the while he teases you directly about your ability to stop reading his book altogether.
Likely knowing you are only listening for the slim chance the author finally decides to get the show on the road and let the main character actually start doing necromancer like things.
I don't care to hear the dean lecture him. I don't care to hear the author address the reader directly. Hey dummy your story is moving at a glacial rate and you have no plot, maybe get the story moving!
I don't care for puny chapters with no distinct objective of their own.
Just bad. Bad. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody.

Historia
The battle in the heavens has left a target on Lindon’s back. His most reliable ally is gone, the Monarchs see him as a threat, and he has inherited one of the most valuable facilities in the world. At any moment, his enemies could band together to kill him. If it weren’t for the Dreadgods. All four are empowered and unleashed, rampaging through Cradle, and grudges old and new must be set aside. The Monarchs need every capable fighter to help them defend their territory.

Welp.
Revisado: 07-06-22
It was a safe book. Felt like filler. Never got me really invested. Maybe I'm just particularly unreactive today.
But today... It was like someone was just whispering the story in my ear and all I could do was nod my head yes. I just took it all in but never felt invested in the story.
I felt Lindon always had it in control. This was that kind of book. Not my cup of tea.
Still it's not a bad book. Just not what I would call a good book.
