Historia
In this riveting memoir, Wade challenges Africans to redefine their narrative, casting aside imposed inferiority to reclaim their innate brilliance. This is not a recounting of poverty and politics. It's an indictment of a world that views Africa as nothing more than a colonial chessboard, with charity acting as the block that keeps Africans stuck. The surprising truth: Africa’s problems are not due to colonialism, corruption, bad leadership, poor skills, or a lack of education. It’s something much bigger, and yet it’s only been visible to entrepreneurs...until now.

I love his book and the narrator. This is exquisite: interesting historically and a wonderful story. Kristy Cambron weaves romance, suspense and the tensions of Nazi occupied Paris together to create an amazing account of bravery by women caught in the maelstrom of WW 2.

I love the mother- daughter collaboration on this latest Molly Murphy adventure. The story line was well developed and held my interest until the end. Rhy and daughter, Clare, stay true to Mollys character, insecurities, and crafty detective reasoning. Bridie as a school age girl with the challenges that brings and how her character evolves provides an additional subplot. Together with a mix of NY politics in 1907, this a delightful addition to the series. I can’t wait for the next installment!

A most interesting view of Coco Chanel
Revisado: 02-21-23
I was inspired to read this as I have over the last few months bumped into Coco Chanel in other books. Rhys Bowen, in her Royal Spyness series, features Chanel her latest “Peril in Paris” ( i am a huge fan of Rhys Bowen’s Mysteries). More recently, I read ( and loved) “ Mistress of the Ritz” by Melanie Benjamin. Mademoiselle Chanel slides in and out if this book. My interest was piqued. The reviews for “ The Queen of Paris” were very good. I can say I was not disappointed. The detail of Chanel’s story interwoven with Nazi occupation of Paris, her creation of her various lines of perfume, and her early struggles provide a fascinating view and glimpse into this iconic woman. There is much to be discussed about choices made which adds to the excellence of the book. A final note: the narrator was superb.

What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Lovely to have Lady Georgianna and Darcy back. The story line flowed and lots of familiar characters are back. I thought this was the narrators best reading since becoming the voice for the series.

Historia
Generally considered to be his masterpiece, Vanity Fair is Thackeray's resplendent social satire that exposes the greed and corruption raging in England during the turmoil of the Napoleonic wars. Subtitled "A Novel Without a Hero", it traces the changing fortunes of two unforgettable women: the scheming opportunist Becky Sharp, one of literature's most resourceful, engaging, and amoral heroines, and her foil, the faithful, naive Amelia Sedley.

I am reading Victorian era literature and what a wonderful opportunity read Charles Dickens, Anthony Trollope, George Elliott, and others. I had never read Vanity Fair so i had no idea what to expect. Its a delight of misadventures, social commentary and clever character ambition. I cant recommend Fredrick Davidson enough. He moves from character to character, capturing the myriad of voices perfectly. The anti-heroine Becky Sharpe is unforgettable.

Historia
In the last and most complex of the Barsetshire novels, many of Trollope's best-loved characters appear, but the mood of the novel is darker and more uneasy than in earlier volumes. At the heart of the novel is the penniless Reverend Josiah Crawley, first encountered in Framley Parsonage, who in the opening of the book is accused of theft, creating a public scandal that threatens to tear the community apart.

Anthony Trollope’s last book of the Chronicles of Barsetshire is a fitting and wonderful sixth book of this series. The Lives of country clergy we have met in the previous five and other associated persons come together. The authors humor and eye to the vagaries of Victorian society create a delightful journey. Tim West is superb again as narrator.

Historia
Doctor Thorne is the third audiobook in Anthony Trollope's series known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire. Long regarded as one of Trollope's greatest works, it is a complex story of love, greed and illegitimacy. Set in fictional Barsetshire, it concerns the romantic challenges facing Doctor Thorne's penniless niece, Mary, and Frank Gresham, the only son of the impoverished squire of Greshambury. Mary falls in love with Frank but he is constrained by the need to marry well to restore the family fortunes.

Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. From alien invasions to walking trees to winged beasts in the woods to dinosaurs spotted in the village of Three Pines, his tales are so extraordinary no one can possibly believe him. Including Armand and Reine-Marie Gamache, who now live in the little Quebec village.

riveting
Revisado: 08-01-21
I started the Gamache series with #16- All the Devils are Here, so I started life in Paris (not Three Pines) and with Robert Bathurst. I loved him, I loved Paris and and I loved the book. With # 16 in tow, I started from the beginning after that and have been sucked into Three Pines and the brilliant narration by Ralph Cosham. I think both do a great tribute to Louise Penny's series. Certainly its never easy to step into the footsteps of a great narrator but I think Robert Bathurst does justice and brilliance in his own way. I would note that there are other series I have read where there has been a change of narrator and it can make a difference. Since much is said about the book by others, I won't add on but say this was riveting as there were reasons to suspect a number of the characters. The evolution of a few of the characters I think was creatively accomplished and only enriches the series. Such fun.
