Good, with a few hiccups
Revisado: 06-03-23
This book was super fun, but most of the non-English words used in the book were Hindi even though the book took place in Gujarat. Similarly, most of the translated idioms were Hindi-based. I know this won’t bother most, but as a Gujarati speaker it was jarring.
Otherwise, I loved the book and loved the narrator for the most part (other than that her pronunciation of the Hindi wasn’t the best).

The Male Narration was horrible
Revisado: 01-22-20
The other reviews were right - the male narrator’s work on the prose was horrendous. He sounded like a bizarre automaton while reading the prose but completely fine for dialogue. I just did not understand.
Otherwise I enjoyed the story and the female narrator. I do wish they had figured out a way to give Laila an Indian accent (she had been in Paris for 2 years so a French accent didn’t make sense), and at the very least learn how to pronounce the Hindi and Tamil words.

Incredibly Frustrating for Hindi Speakers.
Revisado: 06-26-15
I've never been this disappointed in an audiobook. The narrator mispronounced 90% of the Hindi words to the point where it actually pulled me out of the story. If you speak Hindi or anything Hindi adjacent, be prepared to grit your teeth constantly.

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

So much more than the copy suggests!
Revisado: 02-09-15
I'm not sure the person who wrote the blurb actually read the book, because it describes such a small part of the world created here. Do yourself a favor, trust the people who love it and take the plunge!
