In 1971, Hillary Rodham is a young woman full of promise: Life magazine has covered her Wellesley commencement speech, she’s attending Yale Law School, and she’s on the forefront of student activism and the women’s rights movement. And then she meets Bill Clinton. A handsome, charismatic southerner and fellow law student, Bill is already planning his political career. In each other, the two find a profound intellectual, emotional, and physical connection that neither has previously experienced.

So incredibly great!!
Revisado: 01-23-25
This alternate universe Hilary Rodham, who never married Bill Clinton, who became a Senator and so much more, is amazing! The tweaks on history never make the story as a whole sound false. The things that actually happened (Clarence Thomas Senate confirmation, etc) show how this story really could have happened. A great narrator and a great story. It’s unusual for me to hear a pitch for a potential story and desperately want to listen immediately, but it happened with this book and I was NOT disappointed!!!

Historia
This darkly satirical drama by Gore Vidal finds two presidential contenders seeking the endorsement of an aging ex-president, and explores how personal agendas can change the course of a nation's destiny. The political intrigues rampant in Vidal's 1960 setting are strangely similar what is going on today. Includes an interview with actors Fred Thompson and Marsha Mason.

I had never heard of this before and I really enjoyed it! It shows that not much has changed in the last 65 years when it comes to politics. The performances were wonderful, especially the actor playing the salty ex-President.

Historia
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

COULD NOT STOP!!!
Revisado: 10-11-24
I can't imagine reading this book, because by listening you get Julia Roberts reading what Lisa Marie wrote, you get Riley Keough reading what she wrote and you get clips of the actual Lisa Marie on her tapes. This book is so raw and beautiful and tragic and magical. Sure, Elvis died when she was 9 so her limited memories will be filtered through that and it sounds like he was magical. I have also read Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley and Elvis, Priscilla and Me by Mike Edwards and I'm sorry but based on this, Priscilla is a monster! Mike Edwards, in his book, made it sound like yes he had sexual feelings for Lisa but didn't really act on them. Now we know, from this book, that he acted on them again and again, and Priscilla knew and would only make him apologize to Lisa end then he would keep doing it and Priscilla would keep making him apologize! I was surprised to see this book was less than 6 hours, but I was enthralled and sad when it ended. I'm glad Lisa finally got to tell her story her way before she died, like her father, far too young.

Historia
Sweet, supportive, dependable, selfless. Long before she had children of her own, journalist Carrie Mullins knew how mothers should behave. But how? Where did these expectations come from—and, more importantly, are they serving the mothers whose lives they shape? Carrie's suspicion, later crystallized while raising two small children, was that our culture’s idealization of motherhood was not only painfully limiting but harmful, leaving women to cope with impossible standards—standards rarely created by mothers themselves.

So sad this is the end
Revisado: 09-09-24
While so happy to be introduced to such a fantastic talent as Anthony Veasna So, I am also sad that he is gone. It colors the stories and makes them a little sadder, but the specificity of the family and the voices, are so beautiful and also heartbreaking and joyful. My favorite combinations. I will look for other things Anthony wrote and will spend the rest of my life revisiting and recommending this extraordinary voice, gone far too soon.

LAUGH AND LAUGH SOME MORE
Revisado: 09-09-24
This is one of the funniest things I had ever listened to. Laura Benanti is so funny! She shared many deep issues but presented them so hilariously. I made some other people listen to it, and they were as entranced as I was. I love that she calls out that while she has an audience, she's really recording it for audiobook listeners.
Only issue is I couldn't access the PDF on my phone but besides that, perfection!

Revisado: 09-09-24
A Book Tuber recommended this and I am so glad they did! The stories are beautiful and hard and painful and joyous. There aren't enough emotions to describe it. And the way a shorter story at the end called back an earlier story was so amazing. I can't wait to read more Deesha Philyaw and look for more things Narrated by Janina Edwards,

I COULDN'T REFUSE IT!!
Revisado: 09-09-24
I am not a big pod cast listener, but this podcast, presented this way, and the fact that I love the Godfather, was irresistible. So many wonderful voices, so many wonderful angles. Never once was it anything but fascinating and entertaining and gave me so many ways to look at the Godfather that I hadn't before. The day after I was finished, someone started talking about Michael Corleone, and I suddenly had so much more to bring to the conversation than I did before. It was amazing!!!

PERFECT!!!
Revisado: 07-08-24
For those who don't take their poetry or themselves too seriously, this is perfect! Short but beautiful! I would suggest, if you're not sure whether to listen, to watch Catherine Cohen's performances on YouTube before you listen. The poems are succinct and made me smile if not laugh out loud. Sometimes the titles of the poems were funnier than the poems (but the poems are definitely funny!) If you're driving somewhere that is only 20 minutes away, you'll be done when you get back home. But I think it will stay with you.
