Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

interesting start and middle but poor finish

so disappointed in the end, it just devolved into one cliche after another and ended in the least interesting and most predictable way possible

Historia
When John Bandicut sets out across the surface of Triton, he's hardly ready for the storm of chaos that's about to blow through his life. The alien Quarx that soon inhabits his mind is humanity's first contact with an alien life. The Quarx, part of an ancient galactic civilization that manipulates chaos theory to predict catastrophic events, seeks to prevent a cometary collision that could destroy the Earth. But it must have help. If Bandicut chooses to trust the Quarx, he must break all the rules - indeed, sacrifice his own life.

hard to get over that main character
Revisado: 05-28-22
the main character is just so annoying, having to go through paragraphs and paragraphs of him bitching that he can't get laid while the Earth is about to be destroyed and squabbling with the voice in his head it's just too much to bear. plus the cliche plot line of the Earth is going to be destroyed and you're our only hope, I don't know do we really need another story about that or can we move past that shallow and predictable premise?

Historia
In a distant galaxy of colonized planets, the atrocity of slavery is alive and well. Young Thorby was just another bedraggled orphan boy sold at auction, but his new owner, Baslim, is not the disabled beggar he appears to be. Adopting Thorby as his son, Baslim fights relentlessly as an abolitionist spy. When the authorities close in on Baslim, Thorby must find his own way in a hostile galaxy. Joining with the Free Traders, a league of merchant princes, Thorby must find the courage to live by his wits and fight his way up from society's lowest rung.

a fantastic touching journey
Revisado: 05-17-22
this book touches on important social narratives and shows how far ahead of his time Heinlein was, in most areas. it's hard to imagine that this was written in the year it was and that someone at that time was imagining all of this. the one glaring exception how highline projected a 1950s view of women into the far distant future near the end of the book, although in the middle he lived in a matriarchal culture so there's that. but definitely a trend scene with authors of that era, I'm looking at you Asimov. outside of this though it is a very touching and very well written and well read read, highly recommended

Historia
At last - Cajeiri has his young guests from the starship, three young folk entranced by weather and trees and creatures with minds of their own. It’s all he dreamed of.... But now safety is foremost: Cajeiri’s grandfather has been assassinated, hostile Assassins Guild invaded Great-uncle’s house, and now Bren Cameron, paidhi-aiji, who was sent to keep the aiji’s son safe, has more than the young guests on his mind. The aiji-dowager knows who’s to blame for the attacks, and they’re going after him.

I just can't anymore
Revisado: 05-15-22
the first FOUR chapters(out of 16) are all a recap up to this point. the remaining 12 chapters are about nothing really important they couldn't be summed up in a few paragraphs. It is painfully obvious at this point that CJ is just filling pages for the sake of filling pages. I've never seen anything remotely this blatant before.

CJ is rehashing the same plot over and over and over again and just changing the setting. it's still a nice read but disappointingly derivative of the other books in the series. Your standards DAW pattern of quantity over quality

it feels like she is churning out books at this po
Revisado: 03-26-22
well the writing is as good as you'd expect, she doesn't really go anywhere in this book, kind of like the last couple. I feel like this is stereotypical of this publisher to push for more quantity over substance. I won't complain about being able to spend more time in this world which is a pleasant thing but one does question if there are more important topics to explore or interesting places to go
