If an author wants to situate a story in a particular location, they should be familiar with the language: “What are you playing at?!” are words never spoken by an American 21 yo,, let alone a homeless runaway. That was chapter 1 and it didn’t get better from there. The storyline failed for me and I didn’t finish listening to the book. I wish I hadn’t waited for so long to listen to because it’s too late to return.

I’m not sure what all the raving is about, but this is my first read from this author. If I had borrowed this from the library, I would have returned it without finishing it. Lots of holes in the story, unreliable narrator notwithstanding. I was tempted to fast forward, but settled for increased rate of delivery. Nice little twist at the very end, but not enough to make the entirety a worthwhile use of my time. I found the main characters irritating and, unlike in “Girl on the Train,” the dialogue and plot did not save the experience.
