Suspenseful, Great Plot Twists
Revisado: 12-19-24
Clever, plot, good transition from the first novel for monks character. I have been listening to a lot of crime dramas lately and they are getting a bit too lurid orally violent. This is a refreshing change the story keeps your attention with the characters and the plot twists without the accompanying vulgarity. Great narration as well. Thanks Ann Perry,
You’ve renewed my hope in crime dramas for entertainment.

Kept my attention, even though it was long. I wanted it to go on. I learned a lot of historical facts from this great fictional read.

Historia
An old friend's sister disappears without a trace. There's no sign of foul play, but she'd been acting very peculiarly. Meanwhile, Liz's cousin, Christie, comes to stay. She takes an immediate - and uncharacteristic - dislike to the local bookshop owner, Gina. Why does everyone put up with her awful behavior? Christie is convinced that Gina is manipulating everyone around her. Is she onto something dangerous or just pushing her new friends away? No one believes her suspicions until another friend goes missing late at night on the misty Fen marshes.

Really liked this story but some of the narrator’s voices were very irritating and difficult to listen to.

Astonishing twist
Revisado: 02-28-24
The killer being revealed at just the right time was breathtaking. I found some of the book to be a bit slow in developing so I didn’t give all fives but maybe I should reconsider. Anyway, it has hooked me on thy Roper series which I started and went back to months later. I liked this one a lot and look forward to reading the next one in the series.

Please, Please Read/Listen To
Revisado: 11-13-23
Although I’ve read Ann Frank and for awhile was an English Teacher in NYS. I am ashamed to admit that I was unfamiliar with this book.
It is So needed in today’s continual atmosphere of hatred and misinformation. Difficult to listen to if you have any love left in your heart, but a love for humanity will force you to bear witness, if only by listening to the atrocities that man can inflict upon other men.

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Intrigue at its best
Revisado: 09-07-23
When I first started this series I felt it was too slow and almost stopped listening. By the end I was hooked. I was unable to find volume 3 in audible or the public library as an audio so I took a day to read an almost 700 page book… “Death Comes to Kurland Hall” loving the intrigues that Sir Robert and Lucy continually get into. Highly recommend the series

Narrator ruined it for me
Revisado: 07-08-23
The stereotypical voice for the Native Americans was offensive. I probably would have enjoyed this much more with a different narrator. It was a fairly complicated plot, not very easy to follow, but it kept my interest but I was continually irked by the narration.

Addicting
Revisado: 06-09-23
I’ve given up a lot of TV to listen to these books, which apparently have been around for 20 years. I’m currently binging on Debra Crombie but on a wait list so I tried Kate Wilhelm. I didn’t think I would like it, because I’m used to the British
detective stories. I heard her first one and then the second one both within a week and now I am about to begin number three. I feel they are addicting. She has great characters and great plot twists . Enjoy.

Okay if you want to turn off your mind
Revisado: 02-14-23
Too full of unnecessary information. I kept asking myself why I was listening. Sometimes I want to keep chatter in the background, not what I would consider serious writing. It came off as a light hearted canned mystery.
