Historia
Midcentury Los Angeles: A city sold to the world as "the white spot of America", a land of sunshine and orange groves, Midwestern values, and Hollywood stars, protected by the world's most famous police force, the Dragnet-era LAPD. Behind this public image lies a hidden world of "pleasure girls" and crooked cops, ruthless newspaper tycoons, corrupt politicians, and East Coast gangsters on the make. Into this underworld came two men - one L.A.'s most notorious gangster, the other its most famous police chief - each prepared to battle the other for the soul of the city.

Interesting times
Revisado: 03-02-25
Narration is excellent. The story is very good. I’m a transplant to Orange County for the last 20 years so I was not in the state for the 1992 riots only watched on TVfrom Michigan. Very interesting story about chief Parker, and of Mickey Cohen.

Historia
In 2008 veteran journalist Evan Wright, acclaimed for his New York Times best-selling book Generation Kill and co-writer of the Emmy-winning HBO series it spawned, began a series of conversations with super-criminal Jon Roberts, star of the fabulously successful documentary Cocaine Cowboys. Those conversations would last three years, during which time Wright came to realize that Roberts was much more than the de-facto “transportation chief” of the Medellin Cartel during the 1980s, much more than a facilitator of a national drug epidemic.

Wow what a story
Revisado: 02-16-25
The story was crazy, but Jon is a madman and I am disappointed he only served 3 years in prison. I have listened to several books about this cartel and other drug smuggling books so it was interesting to hear some first hand accounts from Jon.

Great book, great man
Revisado: 11-09-24
Loved the book, finished it in 3 days. When I heard the Opiate EP in 1993 it literally was just as mind blowing as the first time I listened to my sister Black Sabbath on vinyl….Seeing him at LP 93 on the small stage was pretty intense and that was after watching RAM on the large stage. I’m from Michigan so I have always followed him and cheered him on. Now I have a better understand what makes that man tick!

Historia
It's 1963, and Detroit is on top of the world. The city's leaders are among the most visionary in America. It was the American auto makers' best year; the revolution in music and politics was underway. Walter Reuther's UAW had helped lift the middle class. Once in a Great City shows that the shadows of collapse were evident even then. Yet so much of what Detroit gave America lasts.

Slow moving at times, but interesting.
Revisado: 07-24-24
Some might think it’s slow moving or the narrator doesn’t do the story justice. Fascinating to learn about the Detroit peak, Motown, Ford, the attempt to get the 1968 Olympic Games, Martin Luther King, JR and Presidents.

Historia
Josef Fritzl was a 73-year-old retired engineer in Austria. He seemed to be living a normal life with his wife, Rosemarie, and their family - though one daughter, Elisabeth, had decades earlier been "lost" to a religious cult. Throughout the years, three of Elisabeth's children mysteriously appeared on the Fritzls' doorstep; Josef and Rosemarie raised them as their own. But only Josef knew the truth about Elisabeth's disappearance.... For 27 years, Josef had imprisoned and molested Elisabeth in his man-made basement dungeon.

Revisado: 03-04-24
Sad, sad story, can’t understand how someone could do that to their own daughter and wife for that matter. The narrator could not pronounce Elizabeth, he left out the h. Kind of got annoying.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Historia
The grim discovery of bodies along Ocean Parkway then leaves investigators with the task of trying to figure out the victims identities. DNA provides the most concrete results but collecting and analyzing DNA has been and still is a time-consuming process that requires cooperation and even luck. And in the case of Suffolk County Police, common scientific sense appears to show their presumptions about at least one death are most likely false. Hosted by Chris Mass. Could be formatted better
Revisado: 10-18-23
Well decided to give this a listen and I will see it through seeing they have a suspect in custody and it looks to be the LISK, BUT the way this podcast is set up there are too many recaps during each podcast. I have heard countless clips from the podcast all throughout multiple episodes. It gets old after a while because you might have a 50 minute episode and it only has 25 minutes worth of new information as the investigation goes. If I have to hear Amber’s old roommate’s voice from his interviews I will go insane!!! What I am saying here, this podcast “flows” horribly.

Married for 26 years, Jose and Kitty Menendez appeared to be a happy couple and proud parents. Twenty-one-year-old Lyle Menendez was enrolled at Princeton, where he was a star on the tennis team. Eighteen-year-old Erik Menendez had just graduated from Beverly Hills High and was about to start college at UCLA. The Menendezes appeared to be living the American dream. But it was all a façade.

Good book
Revisado: 10-05-23
So listening to this book without knowing too much about the case/trial I was able to not come to a judgement until the end. Life without parole is a tough pill to swallow, I waver back and forth on that for this case. Clearly the parents had some issues and there was some abuse, but only speculation on the sexual abuse. There was some premeditation on the “boys” behalf, they were men at the time. They could have handled it differently instead of blowing apart their parents and then trying to cover it up.

Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Misty was devastated to once again find herself in a world of fear, animal cruelty, and sexual abuse.
