Yuck.
Revisado: 09-09-23
I'm about an hour into this and I can't finish. It's legitimately giving me a headache trying to hear the words through the relentless noise. That's not how anything professionally produced should turn out. I get the premise, that this is supposed to be something Skippy created, but there are other ways of getting that across. I love this series and it's frustrating that this book was ruined by bad mixing and overdone sound effects.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Ozzy lives near Portland, Oregon, and is desperate for help. His scientist parents have been kidnapped after discovering a formula that enables mind control. Their work was so top secret that Ozzy is afraid to go to the police, but without help, he fears he'll never find his parents. Then he stumbles across a classified ad in the local newspaper that says "Wizard for Hire. Call 555-SPEL." Ozzy has read about wizards in books like Harry Potter, but wizards couldn't exist today, could they? After Ozzy meets the wizard Labyrinth - a.k.a. Rin - he's even more skeptical.

Oh wow with the yelling
Revisado: 03-08-23
I'm trying really hard to finish this book, but I have to keep turning the volume down because of all the screaming. It's actually uncomfortable to listen to and there are times I'm worried my neighbors will come investigate.

Historia
Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero. Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her. Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …

Cute, target audience is confusing
Revisado: 12-20-20
First, I have to say that I am enjoying this book and plan to read the second in the series. It's cute and feels really unique. However, it feels like it's target audience should be YA, but the author peppers in enough swear words that I feel like I should wash my phone out with soap. I really wish I could recommend this to my nephew, he would love the story, but the profanity takes it out of that age range. It's such a weird juxtaposition in an otherwise, well, cute book it's a little jarring.

Interesting take on this genre
Revisado: 03-01-20
The plot here definitely took a healthy suspension of disbelief, so approach it more as fantasy than realistic fiction. Overall though, I enjoyed this book.

Historia
It’s just a game...or is it? On the heels of his divorce, down-and-out history professor Lee Summerston doesn’t have a lot going for him - a nowhere job at a third-rate college with kids who don’t care about anything except how to slide through class. All of that changes, though, when Lee leads a team of old friends to virtual glory as the first-ever group to beat Mako Assault, a revolutionary new game that has emerged from nowhere to take the Internet by storm.

I wanted to like this book
Revisado: 02-18-20
I really wanted to like this book, I thought the premise was cool. I listened for the first third or so before I had to stop. The narrator was completely distracting - every sentence has weird pauses and stops, and the accents are horrible stereotypes. The race of aliens is somehow just like humans. 5 people are willing to give up their lives on zero notice and go fight a war in space, using the knowledge they learned from gaming. There's just so much suspension of disbelief. I just can't justify spending the time to finish the book.

Had trouble getting into the story
Revisado: 02-08-20
I had trouble getting into the story. I would hear a name and realize that it must be somebody we had spent time on earlier, but I had no idea who it was. It got better toward the end, and I liked the ending.

Solid start to a series
Revisado: 01-26-20
This was definitely a solid start to a new series, and I'm starting book 2 today. The characters were developed and relatable. My only complaint was at times the narrator's breathing was loud and distracting, but he did a good job with voices.

Good apocalypse book
Revisado: 01-25-20
This is your normal end of the world book in a lot of ways. It's an enjoyable read. The plot moves along quickly, as it is less than 6 hours long. The narrator is great. There were several points where I thought descriptions of death got a little too graphic, but horror isn't my normal read.

Historia
2036: The Year Trump Stepped Down is the hilarious and quirky futuristic story of America after enduring 20 years with Donald TXXXP and his family running the show. America in 2036 is a place where only two types of people exist: the have-nots and the rich. The rich reside in the 10 domed capital cities....

Well written, gives a lot to think about
Revisado: 01-22-20
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I went in with an open mind. From the title and summary, there was no question that it would be political and lean hard liberal. I'm more conservative in a lot of ways, but I like to be challenged. If you are easily offended, this book is not for you. But if you would like to explore a dystopian future that calls into question a lot of the choices we make today as Americans, and have a thick skin and a good sense of humor, this might be your book. I agreed with more of it than I figured I would, disagreed with some of it, had some laughs, and have a lot to think about. Overall, I consider that a good experience. Note - I was given this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review.
