Historia
A modern American classic and a family saga that spans decades, this is the story of the volatile Tom Wingo, his brilliant but troubled twin sister, Savannah, and the complex and damaging family legacy they share. Moving between the sparkling glamour of New York City and the vanishing beauty of the South Carolina low country, The Prince of Tides is Pat Conroy’s masterwork.

Outstanding style of expression! Unique & memorable!
Revisado: 03-30-25
Charming southern style narration of a riveting story.
Loved every minute. Wished it wouldn’t end!
Still thinking about the characters…. Difficult to hear the painful details, at times, but kept returning for more. Couldn’t stop listening! Outstanding style! Evokes every emotion possible. I’ve become a huge fan of Pat Conroy’s prose like story telling. His thoughts are so beautifully expressed. Unlike anything else I’ve heard or read.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Revisado: 10-27-23
I kept thinking how relatable, from beginning to end, David’s style of storytelling is to me. I wish we could sit together, connect and continue to share stories. Loved hearing his voice explain how his life’s humbling moments unfolded. Well done, Mr Brooks. Just what I needed at this snapshot in time for my relationships and self discovery; which is a lifelong journey filled with struggles and doubts. Recommend highly to all! Illuminating!

Revisado: 08-09-23
Dr. Gladys shares so generously over a century of her life’s experiences and lessons learned! Wishing I had had her insights years ago. But now, at age 74, I feel validated that my goals, philosophies and lifestyle mirror those of an amazing woman of 102.5 years old. Her outlook is dynamic, energetic and filled with goals! STILL Embracing life, undeterred by the aging process! Thank you, Dr. Gladys! You’re my hero!

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Historia
Less than a century ago, the Second World War took the lives of more than fifty million people; more than six million of them were systematically exterminated through crimes of such enormity that a new name to describe the horror was coined: the Holocaust. Yet amid such darkness, there were glimmers of light—courageous individuals who risked everything to save those hunted by the Nazis.

Uniquely presented, beautifully crafted, important.
I’m 2nd generation survivor & well read about the Holocaust. My mother survived Auschwitz. So I was born into this legacy. But this book of 10 mini novels is satisfying and unique with precise information. Compassionately presented. Every word was crafted to convey the messages with meaning and depth. Couldn’t put it down. Received the hard copy as gift. So I highlighted while listening. Loved the audible narrator’s style. Highly recommend this one!!

Historia
In 1941, Marie Jalowicz Simon, a 19-year-old Berliner, made an extraordinary decision. All around her, Jews were being rounded up for deportation, forced labor, and extermination. Marie took off her yellow star, turned her back on the Jewish community, and vanished into the city. In the years that followed, Marie lived under an assumed identity, forced to accept shelter wherever she found it.

Compelling and fiercely candid!
Revisado: 07-12-22
This is more than a memoir of a Holocaust survivor. It’s a highly detailed and shockingly candid account of survival in Berlin by an intellectually adept young Jewish woman.
I found it so interesting that I didn’t want the story to end. I enjoyed the honesty of her thoughts; found her style immensely satisfying. Audible is definitely the right medium to hear the author’s words. Definitely unique; unusually NOT about the death camps; intricate details of daily life during another type of imprisonment: Nazi Germany.
