Historia
It happens more than you might think. One second someone’s life is totally typical, the next it’s terribly tragic. Everything they had, everything they planned, everything they were, all of it vanishes in a flash. Shock and sorrow leave the victim staring into tomorrow’s void, wondering: How did it happen? Who did it? And why?

Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Really good story line. The “Boston” accent of the narrator was a bit annoying but I love her narration. I specifically pick books for her narration a lot of the time. Overall it was a good read.

I actually didn’t see the twist coming which is unusual for me. There were parts I found very unrealistic but when the book ended it seems to make more sense so overall it was really good!

The narration was what kept me listening
Revisado: 02-29-24
The narration was amazing! She is great at accents and different voices. I don’t often leave a review but I feel this narrator doesn’t get enough credit. I would LOVE to listen to more books she narrates! She needs to do more books for sure. The story itself was just meh, Lisa Jewell has written better books. There were parts that were very poetic and inspiring but the overall the story wasn’t one of her best.
