Historia
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

King seemed a bit distracted
Revisado: 08-25-22
While this story had some supernatural horror and gore, I think it was missing some of the rationale, why was this monster there in the first place and how did it fit into the history of the mind. I was missing that explanation. Good character development but got kind of lost in the details after a while. The ending was somewhat unsatisfactory and lacking some of the tying up of loose ends about the characters.

His mother long gone, his father recently deceased, and the family farm foreclosed upon by the bank, Emmett's intention is to pick up his eight-year-old brother, Billy, and head to California where they can start their lives anew. But when the warden drives away, Emmett discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden's car.

The end is unworthy of the rest of the story
Revisado: 11-21-21
Great characters, dialogue, points of view.
The end was unnecessarily abrupt and unsatisfactory. It was like my essays in the sixth grade. When I got tired of writing, I quit with no real ending. There was so much potential. Unless there’s a sequel. Hint. Hint.

So unprofessional
Revisado: 03-10-17
This "book" is more of a poorly-written brochure. The syntax suggests it was written in another language and poorly translated into English or that it was written by a non-native speaker in English. There were many examples of using a singular noun instead of a plural and without an article such as "a" or "the."
The narrator was good except for bursting into laughter at one point and mispronouncing words. When referring to lead ("led") poisoning, he pronounced it lead ("leed"). Yes, these things really happened.
The content of this book was repetitive and cited outdated references and didn't include anything that you couldn't find in a pamphlet in your doctor's waiting room but if lower quality.
Thanks for the refund, Audible. I'm only out the time on my morning commute.

In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

manifesto of independence through selfcenteredness
Revisado: 01-11-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. I'm sure it's helpful, but most helpful to the author who wrote it.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Least interesting was her frequent name-dropping. That's not a sign of true greatness. She has good insight into her inferiority complex, but should stick to fictional characters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
no
Any additional comments?
Shonda is a successful TV writer, but her story isn't compelling or exemplary.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Old man lives.
What other book might you compare A Man Called Ove to and why?
Can't really compare this to any book I've read.
Any additional comments?
As an older man, I could relate to this curmudgeon. Scandinavian style, redeeming ending.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Historia
You cannot bounce back from hardship. You can only move through it. There is a path through pain to wisdom, through suffering to strength, and through fear to courage if we have the virtue of resilience. In 2012, Eric Greitens unexpectedly heard from a former SEAL comrade, a brother-in-arms he hadn’t seen in a decade. Zach Walker had been one of the toughest of the tough. But ever since he returned home from war to his young family in a small logging town, he’d been struggling. Without a sense of purpose, plagued by PTSD, and masking his pain with heavy drinking, he needed help. Zach and Eric started writing and talking nearly every day, as Eric set down his thoughts on what it takes to build resilience in our lives.

probably not
What about Eric Greitens’s performance did you like?
His feeling and meaning come through perfectly because he wrote it.
Did Resilience inspire you to do anything?
to wish it would be over soon
Any additional comments?
This book began to get repetitive. If it were pared down to 1/3 the length, it would be just right.

Bryson is missing in action
Revisado: 11-10-15
I was looking for the old Bryson, the humorist and thought I would see humor coming through in his explanation of scientific history. Not so. While he has clearly done his research and has an interest in the subject, I found that his treatment was rather dry and detailed. The title is the most humorous thing about it.
