Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Revisado: 06-23-21
Love this book— listened to it twice and enjoyed it even more the second time through! I especially appreciate that the novel is clean. Character development is strong, and I am looking forward to discussing its themes with friends. A must-read book! High school level on up.

Historia
God would indeed answer the prayer of the fiery, red-haired woman from Scotland. For 39 years, Mary Slessor would labor in love among the unreached, often treacherous, tribes of Africa's Calabar region. Braving sickness, danger, and death on all sides, Mary became the cherished "White Ma" to entire tribes. Her faith, steadfastness, and pioneering spirit brought her beloved adopted people their first brilliant, contrasting example of the life and freedom found in Jesus Christ.

I first found this story because I love the reader. I thoroughly enjoyed his reading of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I found LeGuin’s writing to be similar but without all the added poetry and songs. This series is a delightful adventure. Enjoy entering the land and waters of the Earthsea.

Historia
For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard. Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes.

Loved the story--engaging!! The reader was not the best. His voices for some of the characters was poor, but he adequately coveyed tale. I recommend this book.

Long, but worth it.
Revisado: 02-05-17
As I worked through this book, I thought it needed to be abridged, and it would have been better if Jane Austin had done so. However, after completing the story, I appreciated the depth of character development that the length permitted. The culmination of events makes for great discussion in the area of attachments and parenting, among others.
As to the performance, I loved the reader. Her management of the characters was exquisite.

Historia
Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, was Defoe’s first novel and survives as his best-known work. Loosely based on a true account of a Scottish sailor—Alexander Selkirk—it is a tale of one man’s fall from grace and progress to redemption. The account of Crusoe’s life, scratched out with rationed indigo ink on a dwindling supply of paper salvaged from the hull of a wrecked ship, speaks eloquently of the tenacity and ingenuity of the human spirit.

A picture in time
Revisado: 05-28-16
Robinson Crusoe is a classic that is alluded to in other literature. It is also considered the first English novel. For those reasons, it is worth reading.
However, the story wanders and often retraces its steps. As a result, it was a wonderful bedtime read to help me fall asleep.
It was also a fascinating look into the early 18th century mind. It is unabashedly racist. White supremacy abounds. The humble pride of the narrator was laughable.
I am glad that I read this book, and it lends itself to discussion. The reader was excellent. All in all the book is a good glimpse into the past, encouraging me that we do live in a better time.
