Historia
London: 1968. Liz Houghton is languishing as an obituary writer at a London newspaper when a young girl’s disappearance captivates the city. If Liz can break the story, it’s her way into the newsroom. She already has a scoop: Her best friend Marisa is a police officer who is assigned to the case. Liz follows Marisa to Dorset, where they make another disturbing discovery. Over two decades earlier, three girls disappeared while evacuating from London. One was found murdered in the woods near a train line. The other two were never seen again.

wonderful narration
Revisado: 09-15-24
The wonderful narrator makes this story so much more enjoyable!
I love WWII Historical fiction. The current formula seems to be two story lines, one during the war and another one more currently. This story follows that formula to good effect.

WWII historical fiction
Revisado: 12-30-21
I have read/listened to probably at least a 100 historical fictions set in this time frame so obviously I am bias toward it. The set up for this is typical in that the story goes back and forth between two time periods to uncover what happened during the war.
Although this story is typical, different names and events but follows same pattern, I enjoyed it and cared about people and was interested to find out what happened to them in past and present.
The narrator was easy to listen to and had a pleasent voice and accent.
I would probably, however, reccommend buying this on Kindle for $4.00 than using a $14 credit. It would be a quick and easy read.

So Good!
Revisado: 12-25-21
I am glad that I had read reviews first that said stick with it! The beginning is slow and did not grab my attention but I "stuck with it," and I am glad I did!! I loved the characters and the story. I also love that Lisa Wingate manages to get the salvation message in her stories without any heavy handness.
Although the ending is happy, I kinda wanted more from it.

The New York Times best-selling author of George Washington's Secret Six and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates turns to two other heroes of the nation: Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. In The President and the Freedom Fighter, Brian Kilmeade tells the little-known story of how two American heroes moved from strong disagreement to friendship, and in the process changed the entire course of history.

very informative
Revisado: 12-23-21
I found this to be very informative. Although I had read much about Douglas before, I still learned.
I did not enjoy the narrators delivery. I think he is much better as a writer and should have hired a professional narrator who had better delivery.

I really liked this story. The narrarator, however, almost ruined it for me.Her cringe worthy baby talk and pronunciation for the small children was incredibly annoying.

enjoyed
Revisado: 04-15-21
I love historical fiction set during WWII , especially when I learn about something new. I knew nothing about the American Library of Paris. The story of Odel was good. The Wyoming part was okay.
I did not enjoy the French accented narration. It was very hard to understand. I kept changing the speed trying to make it easier to understand. The narrator also smacked her lips some and breathed heavily in some places which was a bit distracting.
I would still recommend this audio book. I really liked the author's notes at the end.

just okay
Revisado: 12-31-20
I love historical fiction dealing with WWII and/or holocaust. This was just okay. Way too much time spent on very detailed intimacy between Linka and Joseph. It was too much. Also, in the end no details about their life once they reconnect. Not a fan.

Good Story
Revisado: 11-15-20
I read and listen to a lot of historical fiction so I am pretty picky. This book was enjoyable but not anything special. It did not invoke many emotions and the characters were interesting but not enthralling. It did not appear to require much research to write as there was not much historical depth to the story. I wish I had not used a credit for it.
