Painful to listen to
Revisado: 09-20-22
The story was hard to follow both the characters, locations, time period. It’s a very rare book I just can’t make myself finish but is is one.

Cannon: The first female Cerberus team member wasn't impressed with my corny pickup lines and wide smile like the other women I use it on. I should move on, but her rejection stings. I also can't figure out if it's the chase I crave, or if this woman is someone special I've been missing in my life.

Loved this book
Revisado: 11-15-19
After listening to this wonderful book I feel like I know Barbara Bush much better. She was a wonderful and powerful woman who loved her family and country and didn’t suffer fools well. She was a great judge of character.

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Goofy voices and explicit sex
Revisado: 11-15-19
I’ve read numerous books by Greg Iles and this was my least favorite. The narrators used goofy and sometimes creepy voices. I think the explicit sexual scenes took away from the book. If I’d wanted the play by play of the characters having sex I would have bought erotica. Very disappointed.

Ward - Susannah is the only woman who’s ever tested my control. Fighting fires is my life, but I can’t put out the fire between us. I tell myself I can keep my distance, tell myself it’s nothing more than a little fun. She fills every corner of my thoughts and kicks my control to the curb. Still, I have this. I can handle her. Then I find out she’s pregnant - with our baby. All bets are off. I’ll do anything to make her mine.

If I’d wanted erotica I’d have ordered erotica
Revisado: 11-15-19
The story line could have been pretty good. The frequent explicit descriptions of sex scenes was way over done. There is a few minutes of the story the 15 minutes of sex. I was looking for a good story not raunch.

Historia
Donald Thornton was a ditchdigger who wanted more for his six daughters. "I love you better than I love life," he assured his children. "But I'm not always gonna be around to look after you, and no man's gonna come along and offer to take care of you, because you ain't light-skinned. That's why you gotta be able to look after yourselves. And for that you gotta be smart."

Wonderful
Revisado: 01-30-17
If you could sum up The Ditchdigger's Daughters in three words, what would they be?
This book made me laugh and cry! The author didn't portray her family and life through rose colored glasses. There were good and bad times but perseverance prevails. The parents showed their girls by example to never give up and family is important. I've recommended this book to many friends and patients.
What did you like best about this story?
Never giving up, finding a way to achieve your goals.
What about Fran L. Washington’s performance did you like?
Excellant
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both. As a mother and a daughter I felt both sides of their trials.
