Unintentionally Hilarious

This book was obviously written by a non-English speaker and translated very badly. Some of the word choices are HILARIOUS! There may be some reasonable material on the subject, but it will be very hard to find. The value in this book is how well it simulates the old party game Mad Libs. In addition, if you look at all of the five star reviews, they are written in batches on the same day, are all of about the same length, and say little or nothing specific about the book. In short, they could easily have been written by reviewers who did not read or listen to the book.

This is a great unapologetic look at one of the proud episodes that forged America. Let the snowflakes whimper, this is a great book on many levels.

Hands Down the Best Audio Book EVER

Brian Kenny is a great sportscaster. He is an insightful innovator who has suffered abuses at the hands of troglodyte peers and players alike. As great a sportscaster as he is, his book, and more amazingly his "reading" of his own book are absolutely off the charts.
I put reading in quotes, because what he does is not so much read his book as perform it. No doubt he was working from some kind of written script or notes when he recorded this book, but it sounds far more like an extemporaneous rant on a subject he knows intimately. His rendition has far more in common with a Steve Jobs presentation or Chris Rock stand up routine than a reading of a book.
Even if you love printed books, do your self a favor and get the audio version (as well).
I can't wait for his next effort.

Just as Relevant as Ever

While some may have problems with the central backdrop of railroads and smoking references in this book, the philosophical concepts examined are just as relevant as they have ever been. I reread this book and “The Fountainhead” at least once a year as a refresher course in common sense and reason.

Totally Dated

This book is basically a regurgitation of research done about 25 years ago, primarily in the computer disk drive manufacturing industry. Some of the conclusions drawn at that time (and suggested to be general principles still hold today, but many do not). The general reader may not be familiar with disk drive manufacturing to assess how these conclusions hold up today. There is, however, a chapter on the electric cars industry. The author makes forecasts for that industry in an attempt to generalize the disk drive industry conclusions. It will be obvious to almost everyone, that the author’s forecast is almost exactly 180 degrees off the mark.

Ok, but dated and political

Much of what is reported in this book is from articles that are 5 years old or more. When the info is about things that are advancing quickly, this is an eternity. The info given is therefore more like unearthing a time capsule than anything else. The author also has a tendency to intersperse science and his personal political views without much demarcation.

What a Deal!!!

This work contains over 60 hours of Sherlock Holmes stories for just 1 audible credit. Nit only that, but the reading of these stories by Stephen Fry is INCREDIBLE! I had only been familiar with Stephen Fry from the movie IQ (Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, Walter Matthau) and had no idea of his range and ability in character voices. What a great surprise!
