Historia
In Survival of the Prettiest, Nancy Etcoff, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and a practicing psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, argues that beauty is neither a cultural construction, an invention of the fashion industry, nor a backlash against feminism - it's in our biology.

An intriguing read
Revisado: 06-24-19
Despite being published originally 20 years ago, the science of “why” there’s “survival of the prettiest”, still remains firm over millennia ... an excellent performance and compilation of everything from why we curl our eyelashes, to the color and style of fabric that’s chosen - based on displayed signals explained in selection through survival of the most appealing conditions across the planet. Explaining the features fluctuating and correlating with environmental conditions like sunlight reflecting off snow (causing fatty pads around the eyes) or cooler climates supporting the longer, warming nasal passages in comparison to warm areas with wider, open nostrils seen in varieties of the human race.

Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

Exceptional- A Terrifying Truth of Lies
Revisado: 05-29-19
I hope this author gets additional recognition for whatever collaborations were made between the creators of the HBO Miniseries, “Chernobyl” and this author, Adam Higginsbotham... It reads almost exactly to the script of the HBO TV miniseries, right down to the tiniest noted details... I loved the audio book, narrator, performance and fascinating story; I recall the mild panic in Western Canada the year this happened while I was in junior high school- it feels surreal to imagine this story as the facts that happened behind the scenes of what the rest of the world was lied to about.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

An Untold Tragedy revealed here
Revisado: 05-21-19
An exceptional presentation of the impact this tragic historical abuse of power, industry, denial and lies; resulting in horrible deaths of dedicated workers who simply painted the numbers on the faces of wrist watches.

NARRATOR KILLS THE STORY
Revisado: 05-09-16
What made the experience of listening to The Country Boy Killer: True Story of Cody Legebokoff, Canada's Teenage Serial Killer the most enjoyable?
It was about a local and familiar case.
What was most disappointing about JT Hunter’s story?
The NARRATOR... it was so very painful to sit through his broken sentences- it was all I could do NOT to turn it off... I actually kept looking at the minutes remaining in the story whenever he would pause and pick up the sentence on the next line down.... It was read like a grade 7 student was put on the spot in front of a classroom and forced to read an awkward essay... PAINFUL TO SIT THROUGH.
Would you be willing to try another one of Don Kline’s performances?
NEVER.... NEVER EVER... I also bought another serial killer audiobook and was so glad that this one was over to start a new narrator, but when I started to play the next audiobook, it was HIM AGAIN, as if he was haunting my road trip!!! I don't understand how he got hired to do this kind of work... it's seriously wrong.

Historia
Nazca, once only an isolated settlement in the midst of the Peruvian desert, is today the meeting place for archaeologists from around the world. From here you can fly over the celebrated Nazca pampa and appreciate the massive scale of the extraordinary markings on the surrounding landscape. Some of these lines are over twenty kilometers long! Drawing on over thirty years of study, Erich von Daniken examines the various theories that attempt to explain the Nazca phenomena in terms of religious ritual, ancient roads, and astrological symbols.

His stuff is always interesting
Revisado: 01-28-15
Other than the occasional defensive rant, where he clarifies what he actually said vs what others have quoted him to say (which I don't blame him for taking the opportunity in his own books to do so!), the book is very informative!
