stays on topic
Revisado: 11-12-18
a bit less about volcano's and more about survival afterward but focus is on couple and the aftermath issues - for pure science of volcano's the first two are better - for continuation of the story of the couple this is great

With Patterson as the coauthor I expected more but it seems that the public, campaign image was the focus - boring!!!

Historia
From time to time, we've all experienced coincidences that seem to be endowed with a special meaning or significance, and that appear to defy the laws of probability. For the most part, these coincidences seem amusing or insignificant. But a famous psychologist defined these moments of meaningful coincidence as "Synchronicity".

too many dead air places
Revisado: 04-02-18
Any additional comments?
this needs to be sold as a workshop and not a book - while i really appreciate Deepak's knowledge and he is great as the narrator the many dead air while we supposedly try out whatever really detracted - one can always turn off a book to try it - leaving dead air is misleading

Historia
Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

great science of sleep but misleading on dreams
Revisado: 03-27-18
Any additional comments?
This is a solid review of the research on sleep but the title is misleading and the author/lecturer is wrong in his understanding of dreams. I've been doing scientific dream research for 40 years so I know something of what I speak. First despite the title of the lecture, there is very little on dreams. The authors basic understanding of dream is they are hard to remember thus there is nothing to gain. He is simply wrong. For some people, or some times, in some cultures that is true but not always. Furthermore, he repeated stance that sleepers will confuse waking reality with dream reality can happen but RARELY. The reason is the language of dreams is symbolic and metaphoric. Thus there is little chance of confusion. He totally ignores that well known fact. The ultimate irony is he end every lecture with "sweet dreams" while dismissing them. It's really too bad as otherwise this is just excellent.

Historia
Can yoga and meditation unleash our inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition? Is it really possible to perceive another person's thoughts and intentions? Influence objects with our minds? Envision future events? And is it possible that some of the superpowers described in ancient legends, science fiction, and comic books are actually real, and patiently waiting for us behind the scenes? Are we now poised for an evolutionary trigger to pull the switch and release our full potentials?

great balance of science and wisdom traditions
Revisado: 03-16-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes to any friend who has had questions about parapsychology or the 'side' effects (Siddhi's) from long time meditation.
Any additional comments?
This book is a wonderful balanced perspective on the study of exceptional human abilities. Radin offers an amazing integration of eastern wisdom philosophy and religious perspectives along with solid scientific perspectives. He also gives the reader a clear picture of why these topics have been taboo for so many years in the west. Thus the reader/listener can follow not only the traditional teachings but why science ignored these topics for so long and how far science has come in validating some of the topics. As with his You Tube talks his approach is solid and accessible. But here the reader gets far more detail for anyone thinking deeply about these topics is important. I'm a long time experimental psychologist doing research on dreams and more recently virtual worlds and felt so very informed and updated by this read. I highly recommend the book.

too much pop psy
Revisado: 01-15-18
What would have made Retirement: A Memoir and Guide - Second Edition better?
less platitudes taken from popular psychology and more personal asides - that's why i got the book - while he qualifies some of his asides as his opinion, which is great, the this is what is good to do is just very obvious
What could Boyd Lemon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
make it his personal journey - not a stand to lecture on the obvious - various of his conclusions do not resonate - i'm a psychologist so i was very disappointed when he went that way - i do think there is a need for pure first person accounts of retirement
Would you be willing to try another one of Don Hoeksema’s performances?
it was ok

same
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no
Any additional comments?

good background story if some weakness
Revisado: 02-14-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
yes
Who was your favorite character and why?
the various scientists as that was what was interesting to me
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Andrew Wehrlen?
anybody - he is the worst narrator I have ever heard - I always wondered why people complained about a narrator as basic reading skills was fine by me but this guy made it hard to listen to the book - the pace was way too fast, the voices he used too often did not ring true
Was Torn worth the listening time?
yes, i like this genre of book
Any additional comments?
the author is weak in building interpersonal relationships which just don't make sense or rather don't ring true but the background story of superstorm and how to plan for it was interesting - the ending was a hoot!!!

Early in his career, Jerry Culpepper could never have been accused of being idealistic. Doing public relations—even for politicians—was strictly business...until he was hired as NASA’s public affairs director and discovered a client he could believe in. Proud of the agency’s history and sure of its destiny, he was thrilled to be a part of its future—a bright era of far-reaching space exploration.

book seems to drop off
Revisado: 11-16-12
What did you like best about The Cassandra Project? What did you like least?
interesting if slow read but then the "end" seems to not be an end - and the audible transition of this is only part of the book is given at the end of the second part of a presumably two part book - so what gives!!! somewhere there is a mistake - either on audibles side by putting a transition tape at the end of a book or there is a third part, which seems more likely given where it "ended", and that part is missing from audibles library - in any case until the mistake is sorted out (get rid of the transition or add the third part) do not buy
Do you think The Cassandra Project needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
are you kidding - yes if that is in fact the end that is there - but then even the folks at audible found it very confusing by putting a transistion statement at the end of a book to what?????

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

sobbering must read
Revisado: 05-22-09
If you utterly familiar with EMP or with the idea the the US is amazingly vulnerable on so many levels than don't bother - but if you have the basic idea but not the historically accurate projections then read on - terrific, spellbinding and so what if the main character is molded after the author - who cares - or if not - that is not the point and nothing to base a review upon as I read before I decided that indeed this was a book i wanted to read
