Historia
Orrie Hitt was a prolific writer of “gritty” romances in the 1950s and '60s. He wrote over 150 novels and was very good at what he did. Hitt still has a large following today. The website “Criminal Element” called him “The Shakespeare of Shabby Street".

Good 60's type romance
Revisado: 05-30-22
With all thatf's going on in the world right now, ( Covid, Ukraine, Shootings etc. ) I was looking for a little escaptist fiction - with some romance - from a simpler time. This fit the bill perfectly. It was written in 1960, a time I remember well. It's not politically
correct by today standards, but that was fine with me. The characters are a bit "extreme" - meaning the men are all he-men and all the women are all beautiful and sexy, but again ok ...since I was seeking escape, that was fine with me. Hitt is a good writer. You find youself caring about his caracters. I'll be looking for more of his stuff now that I'm done with this one. Oh... and the narrator was very good - which made the listening experience a pleasant one.

Historia
Back in the 1950's and 60's, Orrie Hitt was a prolific writer of romance novels. The "hanky panky" in his novels is tamer and less explicit than in many of today's romance novels, but the storylines were incredibly engaging. His characters are so fully developed that you either love them, hate them or pity them. In this novel, overworked and underpaid Danny O'Conner decides to take a little vacation at a resort, then decides to stay and work there. He soon becomes involved with three women, a lot of intrigue, and a great deal of danger.

An "A. I." narrator.Holy Crap!
Revisado: 03-28-22
This is the second book I've listened to, narrated by "Jeffrey Brown." I gave him a good review for the first book, because I like narrators who just read the book intelligently and don't try to "act it out." Imagine my surprise, when I read the descirpton of this book, which said that Jeffrey was, in fact, an A. I. voice! Wholly crap! A. I. voices have cetainly improved immensely since Siri, Alexa and "Google voice."
In the first book, I thought "Jeffrey" was straightforward and not very emotional but I would never have guessed he ( or it ) was a computer generatd voice, Technology is starting to get a bit scary!
Anyway, I sitll like "Jeffrey", and have to wonder how many other narrators are actually A. I. voices. If they are anything like Jeffrey, it would be very hard to tell.
As for the book....It was the usual Orrie Hitt...well written, good charactor development and, like the last one, ( Sin Doll ) it quickly drew me in to it's 1950ish world. Good "escapist" story and, considering what is happening in the word today, a welcome few hours in another time.

Good, but not for the prudish.
Revisado: 02-21-22
Interesting story and well read by a guy with a mature high class British accent. However, like many Victorian books of this type, the sex scenes are very explicit and detailed, so if you are uncomfortable with that sort of thing, stay away!

Riveting stuff

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Because it's much more than just a sports book.
What about James Killavey’s performance did you like?
Good reading.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both in various sections.
Any additional comments?
I decided to get this after reading the quote from Bob Ryan, one of my favorite sportswriters."This is an extraordinary life story of a unique individual. The epilogue alone is worth the price of the book.” He was right. It is an extraordinary book. Not sure if the epilogue alone was worth the price of the book but it certainly was different..and fascinating.
