Elise is fractured inside, stained by a past she refuses to remember. Merrick is scarred both inside and out, a half-breed with a brutal background, at home nowhere in the universe. Now they are tied together by an unstable bond which could kill them both. Their journey will take them to the lawless planet of Rageron - the wildest of all the Kindred worlds. There, in the deep blue jungles of an alien world, Elise must bare her soul and relive the horror that nearly killed her.

The enjoyment was definitely enhanced by switching to a talented male narrator, it just worked with a great story!

Beaumont
Revisado: 08-18-20
It feels like the author is trying to find a way to lay this character 'to rest', like she's bored with the identify-ably human personality she created. Unfortunately, the performer not only underscored that, but did it sounding unenthused himself. this was simply a time filler.

What would have made Strangers better?
...an actual storyline would help.
Would you ever listen to anything by Barbara Elsborg again?
Not inspired to try again.
Would you be willing to try another one of Tillie Hooper’s performances?
Don't know, this must have been a handicap.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Neutrality....it is just soft porn...meh.

You have to be a battle buff.
Revisado: 09-18-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The only reason for the low review is that I am not a "blow-by-blow" battle fan. I prefer the personal view and "what-makes-'em-tick" stuff. Well written, and I'm sure accurate, just not my style.
Would you be willing to try another book from James D. Hornfischer? Why or why not?
Possibly.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Revisado: 06-25-13
What made the experience of listening to Proof of Heaven the most enjoyable?
I need to be able to add fuel for philosophical exploration, this was an excellent springboard. I've read many of the sources he listed (years ago), you don't have to buy in head first, but it is compelling.

Historia
In Chimera, John Barth injects his signature wit into the tales of Scheherezade of the Thousand and One Nights; Perseus, the slayer of Medusa; and Bellerophon, who tamed the winged horse Pegasus. In a book that the Washington Post called "stylishly maned, tragically songful, and serpentinely elegant", Barth retells these tales from varying perspectives, examining the myths' relationship to reality and their resonance with the contemporary world.

Singularly not impressed.
Revisado: 08-27-12
What disappointed you about Chimera?
I may as well have listening to a middle school slander fest. Give me the mythology (it is rich enough), or make the tales come from some elementary cafeteria....
Would you ever listen to anything by John Barth again?
Not sure.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kevin Pariseau’s performances?
Not sure.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment, poorly spent credit.

Historia
The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.
Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

What a kick! We are given details on studies, by professionals, who are trying to discover what makes us tick at the most intimate level...our sexuality. The writing is done with humor, without being ribald, and one does come away illuminated. The amazing part; the lengths to which "they" go in the discovery process.
