Not so alone
Revisado: 02-11-25
I appreciate Allison’s candor and willingness to share her story. I myself am a suicide widow and I know it feels isolating and dark. It’s people like Allison who had the courage to tell their story that gave me a glimmer of hope that it was possible to survive such unbearable pain. Unfortunately, suicide is more common than most of us want to admit. I believe until we start talking openly about suicide and mental health, we will continue to see a rise in numbers. Survivors of suicide loss do not need to be ashamed of sharing their stories and their unfiltered feelings. Society as a whole needs to face the facts, suicide does not discriminate, it does not matter how educated you are, what type of home you grew up in, how much money you make or where you live. Suicide strikes all families, all communities, and it is no more shameful a cause of death than any other cause. It’s time we peel back the stigma around suicide so that more people see the repercussions and also release the shame of asking for help before it’s too late, creating a ripple effect of destruction for their families and friends. This book was an honest account of what it is like for a survivor and it peels back the layers of difficult emotions and the heavy weight associated with death by suicide.

I am an audible and self-help junkie. If I had to pick one book from my library to keep this would be it! He covers so much material and an easily digestible and approachable format. I bought print copies to give both of my children. This should be mandatory reading for high school.

Life Saver
Revisado: 10-22-23
My husband died by suicide, and I felt so alone, like nobody understood. I was desperately searching for the slightest bit of hope to grasp onto. Jennifer‘s book was that for me. Each person’s pain and grief is unique, but knowing that others made it through such a horrific event, provided the smallest crack of light in my darkest days. Death and suicide are not things that anybody wants to move through or talk about but I am grateful that Jennifer and others have been able to tell their stories so that we can help survivors heal and hopefully break down the stigma so that more people get help before it’s too late.

Suicide survival is such a lonely walk. Although I hate that there are others who have taken and will take this journey, it is comforting to not feel alone and have someone who has been down the path, help shine a light in the dark, winding curves. This book is filled with such honesty and emotion. The narration is touching and entertaining. Thank you for sharing your story and helping to try and bring healing to so many others.
