Awesome story, can't wait for the next one!
Revisado: 06-06-23
This book was more action packed than the first, so waiting for the next installment will be harder. Great narration, clearly performed with different voices for different characters - makes it easy to keep track of who's talking. Made tearing up moldy floor in my basement much more enjoyable

Historia
When paleontologists Samira and Kit uncover dinosaur skeletons in northern Thailand, they also find the remains of an ancient genetic technology that nations will kill to control. Catapulted into a web of murder and intrigue involving the Chinese Ministry of State Security, a powerful Asian crime syndicate, the CIA, and a beautiful Thai princess, Samira and Kit don’t know who they can trust. Torn apart by competing factions and stranded on opposite sides of the world, they race to discover the truth before the world goes to war.

Great story

This is a fun science fiction story that I actually learned some stuff from - for example that the Gaia observatory actually exists. Narration is great, voices for different characters make it easy to follow who's talking in the dialogue.

Seems like it was meant to be part of the next book
Revisado: 07-17-20
I think some of the bad reviews here are a little unfair because it’s in comparison to recent books that have been in these series which have been polished a bit more. This one feels like; it’s either pretty good as about the first half of what’s coming next, or it could have made a good full book but wasn’t as fleshed out as we are currently used to.
It has all the right elements to be as good as the recent installments in the series, just kinda like that first or second draft you make of the email you need to send for work, before you’ve scrubbed it up and worded it a little better. Except, we are talking someone who writes for a job. So the baselines a lot higher
Anyway, it’s hard for me to find books I enjoy nearly as much as this. Plenty of published and even popular books are less polished than this. So yeah, it’s not quite what we have come to expect....but the right elements are there and, Butchers made such an excellent series so far that with the next one coming out in the same year? I’d find it really hard to hold any of this against him or the series. It’s still an excellent book that I’m still far more likely to re listen to than most other books I have.
Part of me really wishes it had just all been one really long book with the next one that’s coming in a couple months. Brandon Sanderson storm light style. Cause now I have to wait for the rest....
But with how these books are usually structured I have to think it might have been intentional and I guess only time will tell

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Great content, very engaging and informative
Revisado: 08-22-19
There’s reviews here that talk about how “this guys shares opinions” - yes he does, but he tells you when he’s doing that and I think that’s basically unavoidable with history anyway. He also tends to share other opinions from other historians.
It’s easy for me to follow. I’ve never been good at remembering numerical dates. He gives you an overview of what happens, chronologically and why. So that’s really good for my personal learning style
He’s very passionate about this topic which makes it easy to listen to. I would definitely listen to this again.

Another great story from Drew Hayes
Revisado: 06-19-19
Hayes is really great with writing characters. Even a concept that seems like it’s probably overdone, like vampires superhero’s and Sherlock Holmes- he makes it engaging and definitely always captures my interest. Another author I enjoy for this reason is Brandon Sanderson.
I’m never sure what to write in these reviews - other than Hayes manages to make all the outlandish shenanigans going on seem relatable and real, while keeping things light hearted and fun.

Historia
Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

Decent, but not as good as the previous three book
Revisado: 06-12-19
I was excited for this book because the last three had me cracking up all week at work. While it’s not terrible, and it’s at least as good as any other random book I decide to try out, my expectations were quite a bit higher after the others in this series. It seems like filler. I don’t know that I’ll ever re listen to this. If there was a 10 star rating system I’d put it about at a 5. I don’t regret listening to it because there’s way worse things out there, but it’s definitely not as engaging as the other ones. I feel like it has potential, but seems a bit unpolished. The fact that the dragons can’t hurt anyone doesn’t need to matter, if any of the characters motives had been fleshed out more I think it could have made me more invested in the story.

Dry mouth
Revisado: 06-29-16
I like the book but it really bothers me when a narrator has a dry mouth and it sounds like their mouth is full of slime as they're talking. Just to warn anyone with a similar pet peeve
