Historia
Kit Harington (Games of Thrones) and Johnny Flynn (Beast) smolder and burn as sparring brothers in Sam Shepard’s darkly comic 1980 drama. The live theatre production of True West was performed at the Vaudeville Theatre in London, United Kingdom, in 2019. It was produced by Joseph Smith and John Brant for Smith & Brant Theatricals and James Bierman for Empire Street Productions.

For Sam Shepard Fans
Revisado: 10-23-19
The bad reviews lead me to believe that most downloaded this simply because it was free and featured GOT’s Kit Harrington. Thing is, TRUE WEST isn’t likely the best entry point for Sam Shepard’s canon of work.
While I loved this rendition, I only recently saw the live Ethan Hawke/Paul Dano version on Broadway and I was hoping for a bit of a difference in their interpretations, but there were points where I honestly couldn’t have discerned whether it was Flynn or Hawke (obviously knowing it was Flynn, but their voice and intonations were THAT similar).
Good listen overall, but not recommended if you’re not already familiar with Shepard’s work or looking for a very Americana take on Cain & Abel.

Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

How Many “Uhm” Can One Book Have?
Revisado: 10-22-19
This is a professional recording, this is supposed to be an edited book. Why in the world would you ever allow the “Kate” chapter with a solid 25% of the content being “Uhm” or “Like.” It sullies the surrounding content and I take the overall less seriously - this subject is too important for it to be packaged so poorly.

Moving. At the cellular level, this book can change hearts. Read it. Gift it.
Revisado: 12-19-18
Her voice calm and steady, her stories painted with every brush and color in her kit, this was a deeply humbling and uplifting portrait of a woman given tremendous opportunities, but that came at such costs. It’s a portrait of an America we love and one that still scares many of us. It was the passion of a mother and a wife for her family, with the fortitude and insights of a professional with hard earned achievements.
With gratitude for the time and emotion she put into this book, I thank Mrs. Obama. Bravo.

More than 44 percent of Americans admit to losing sleep over stress. And while most of us do everything we can to reduce it, Stanford psychologist and best-selling author Kelly McGonigal, PhD, delivers a startling message: Stress isn't bad. In The Upside of Stress, McGonigal highlights new research indicating that stress can, in fact, make us stronger, smarter, and happier - if we learn how to embrace it.

Admittedly I thought I was going to give up on this one. It started slow and and the lab rats droled on longer than I could muster to care about, but 3.5 hours in I was completely consumed with the stories and relevance of her data. Great read once you get past some of the more collegiate text.

Millions of people go to enormous lengths to achieve fame. Fame is woven into our lives in ways that may have been unimaginable in years past. Mining decades of experience, writer, director, producer, and actress Justine Bateman writes a visceral, intimate look at the experience of Fame. An Exercise in Suppressed Rage
Revisado: 11-26-18
What began as a hopeful look at the circus mirror that is fame from someone who survived it quickly became a manifesto of rage and mud slinging rife with insecurities.
For as much as Bateman tried to proclaim this wasn’t a memoir, this sure was a litany of personal grievances and “what happened to me” stories that relied on expletives to fill a good third of the book.
Disappointing to say the least. I’d looked for this at my library and they didn’t carry it so I caved to buy the Audible copy. I respect anyone who goes beyond the pigeonhole, and I was eager to read her thoughts on that same idea, but instead this was a diatribe of vitriol toward fans, fellow celebs, media and basically anyone who had ever so much as taken an interest in her work.

Historia
At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle. How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.

Everyone Must Read
Revisado: 10-10-18
Not because of the natural gift Noah has for writing and then narration, but because this is one of those books that makes the world smaller, more accessible, more relatable and people become more than people.
The stories were compelling, and while I often felt like crying, Noah is so well versed and so focused on ensuring the full story emerges, no tears fell. His words were comfort and clarity through the emotion.
Incredible read and I’m grateful for the experiences shared.

Historia
Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

Yes, Y’all, Yes!!!
Revisado: 09-20-18
I’m so, SO glad I opted for this on Audible instead of print - you still get the PDF of recipes and whatnot, but oh my heavens is it a joy to hear Reese relive her fondest of memories and share such stories with love and joy in her own voice and that accent. This is such a quickie - I devoured it while, of all things, prepping food for a little get together, and I KID YOU NOT, my friends all left yammering about how great of a host I had been!
Just when Reese Witherspoon seems like an already unimaginable force of nature, she goes and adds this book into the mix - but I promise you, it’ll make you feel all the more like we’re in this together.
This book was that “laughter through tears” kind of heart warming joy - literally, I bawled my eyes out listening to her talk about her love for Dolly Parton, cuz SAME.
You’re gonna love this and I’m so grateful for all the wisdom and laughs packed into this one little listen.

Do you remember when you had your first thought of corporate America and working there? A job of high importance came to mind, maybe even wearing a suit and working in a fancy office. The sad truth in the matter of this place is, although it has its perks and benefits, it has about as much politics and as many cliques as the high school cafeteria. When thinking about life after high school we always imagined that the real world wouldn't have as many barriers.
