Historia
United we stand, divided we fall. Once again reunited, the Lucky 13 set out to hunt down their adversaries - only to be met with an entirely new set of unexpected obstacles. As much as Bree is burning to finally get her revenge, it soon becomes obvious that on their own they are no match for the forces opposing them. With giving up not an option, they will have to find a way to bolster their numbers - or failing that, make the ultimate sacrifice.

From smart to inarticulate in six books
Revisado: 02-22-25
These books had so much promise! I was so glad I found another good post-apocalyptic series. But by book six, I can’t even finish. Not good! Main character can only speak in four letter words despite her phd. Main man becomes simpering side kick. About the language, I don’t usually mind, but this was unnecessarily overdone. The zombie story gets lost. Books 1-2 are ok, but by now it’s time to move on. Don’t waste your credit!

Historia
It is 1990 when Melvina Donleavy arrives in Soviet Belarus on her first undercover mission with the CIA, alongside three fellow agents—none of whom know she is playing two roles. To the prying eyes of the KGB, she is merely a secretary; to her CIA minders, she is the only one who can stop the flow of nuclear weapons from the crumbling Soviet Union into the Middle East. For Mel has a secret; she is a “super recognizer,” someone who never forgets a face. But no training could prepare her for the reality of life undercover, and for the streets of Minsk.

Historia
Perched on a sloping hill, set away from a small town by the sea, the High House has a tide pool and a mill, a vegetable garden, and, most importantly, a barn full of supplies. Caro, Pauly, Sally, and Grandy are safe, so far, from the rising water that threatens to destroy the town and that has, perhaps, already destroyed everything else. But for how long?

Great travelogue - horrible characters
Revisado: 12-15-22
Don’t know if it was the reader who made the personalities worse or if the characters were that awful! Story about Vietnam was great. Loved the descriptions of places in the sixties and in 1990s.

What happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke remains a mystery, but the women who descended from Eleanor Dare have long known that the truth lies in what she left behind: a message carved onto a large stone and the contents of her treasured commonplace book. Brought from England on Eleanor’s fateful voyage to the New World, her book was passed down through the fifteen generations of daughters who followed as they came of age.

Most beautiful book this year!
Revisado: 04-17-22
One of the most beautiful, hopeful, and loving books I’ve read this year. The writer articulates the emotional landscape between mothers and daughters through the generations. It includes a well researched historical mystery and gorgeous descriptions of the Georgia coast. Worth every second of listening!

Historia
From New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a novel that is equal parts psychological horror and cutting social commentary on identity politics and the American-Indian experience. Fans of Jordan Peele and Tommy Orange will love this story as it follows the lives of four American-Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a vengeful way.

Hard to get through
Revisado: 12-18-21
This really is a horror story told by an unreliable narrator. I found it difficult to listen to and the story hard to follow. Probably just me, but it was a disappointment!

Great for women who like the outdoors
Revisado: 10-10-20
With love for nature and animals, this book captivates through its descriptions of life spent outdoors. Timely, well-written, and thoroughly researched, the author peels back the layers of shame felt by victims of abuse and the strategies of their abuser. This book will stay with me for a long time. It wasn’t until I heard the author’s acknowledgements that I understood that though this is fiction, it is based in reality. It’s an unusual, but beautiful story, terrific performance.

Historia
In a small Southern town where loyalty to family and to "your people" carries the weight of a sacred oath, defying those unspoken rules can be a deadly proposition. After 15 years of growing up in the Ozark hills with his widowed mother, high-school freshman Boady Sanden is beyond ready to move on. He dreams of glass towers and cityscapes, driven by his desire to be anywhere other than Jessup, Missouri. The new kid at St. Ignatius High School, if he isn't being pushed around, he is being completely ignored.

Great book about a difficult subject
Revisado: 11-25-19
This book is the fast-paced and absorbing story we’ve come to expect from Allen Eskens. It articulates the uncertainty of growing up in a small rural town with understanding and sensitivity. Some of the characters are somewhat stereotypical bad guys, but they serve their purpose. Main characters were terrific, good trajectory of growth and maturation. Narration was good as well. Well worth the credit.

Billy Todd has always been different. Most people called him odd, and those were the nice people. Though he was born with a learning disability, Billy's parents never allowed him to consider himself disabled. Raised to be self-sufficient, Billy might not be as smart as some, but he was a lot smarter than people realized.

This is a GREAT post apocalyptic story
Revisado: 08-28-19
I listen to this genre all the time. Almost never leave a review. This is a great story. Main character is terrific! Story is ingenious. It’s unusual while at the same time it fits the genre. Narrator is perfect.
What I liked best is the way the main character makes lists of the things he needs for his post apocalyptic lifestyle! If you’re a prepper, these lists are inspirational.
Highly recommend.

When she fell asleep, the world was doomed. When she awoke, it was dead. Unbelievably good
Revisado: 12-16-16
Worth more than the one credit you will spend. I don't write reviews. But this book moves unrelentingly forward through a damaged world taking no prisoners! The narrator's clear voice is engaging and insightful. Just when I'd despaired of finding a non-sexist paternalistic view of survival, I found The Unmamed Midwife... I couldn't stop listening. The performance was as good as the book!
