Historia
Lissie is a nurse in a gritty, hectic London neighborhood. Always terribly competent and good at keeping it all together, she’s been suffering quietly with PTSD after helping to save the victim of a shocking crime. Her supervisor quietly arranges for Lissie to spend a few months doing a much less demanding job in the little town of Kirrinfeif in Scottish Highlands, hoping that the change of scenery will help her heal. Lissie will be swapping places with Cormack, an Army veteran who’s Kirrinfeif’s easygoing nurse/paramedic/all-purpose medical man.

Beautiful story

I was happy to see characters that I had read about in a previous book. Very touching story for anyone who works in the medical field as well.

Thought provoking

Good storyline, believable characters. Appreciated seeing but change in the characters by the end. Authors note explained how this was based on true stories blended together.

Historically and brutally accurate
Revisado: 12-31-24
I loved this book. It was gut, wrenching and heartwarming and being a small child in elementary school when the war finally ended and also being married to a Vietnam-era vet, lead to a lot of great discussions. It made me go to my childhood jewelry box to look for my POW bracelet. I wore bracelet for Paul Worrell, In 1985 his remains were turned back over. This book took me back to what it was like in the 1980s to feed homeless vets in Philadelphia. Listening to their stories about the war, fighting drug addiction, self-medicating, even though we didn’t know that term then. Just will remind you of how important life is. How important the people in your life are. And to take nothing for granted. I’m especially thankful for the women, who were in Vietnam and feel horrible about the way our country treated those people, especially the women when they came home.

Historia
Five years after the highly publicized trial of Klaus Barbie, the “Butcher of Lyon,” law student Valérie Portheret began her doctoral research into the 108 children who disappeared from Vénissieux fifty years earlier, children who somehow managed to escape deportation and certain death in the German concentration camps. She soon discovers that their rescue was no unexplainable miracle.

Amazing book I want to share with others

Based on true events. Restored my faith in humanity. The horrors of WWII and the hearts of humans of many faiths and backgrounds working toward a common goal to save other humans even if risking their own lives.
