Historia
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life … With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky Bloomwood’s biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. That is, until Luke announces he’s moving to New York for business—and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say “Prada sample sale,” Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury department stores.

Needless edits to a classic great story
Revisado: 04-28-25
This audiobook is Extremely FRUSTRATING. I first read this book when it was published, and all the edits are 100% unnecessary. I have no idea why they have edited it so much. I’d like to know why they edited a story that was already great the way it was. The problem with the editing a story that’s been around, as Becky would say, for ages, is that you’re changing a story people are already familiar with as though it’s from some bizarro alternate universe. Why bother even recording it, or in this case re-recording it, if you’re going to do that? VERY disappointing and, again, frustrating. I’m going back to the Emily Grey recording, somehow putting it on my phone.
I gave high stars for the performance since it’s not the actor’s fault the editors ruined it.

Historia
When listeners left Ruth at the end of Tender at the Bone, she was in Berkeley, California, working as a chef at the Swallow restaurant. Comfort Me with Apples picks up in 1978; Ruth is still living in a commune with her husband, Doug, but she’s decided to put down her chef’s toque and embark on a career as a restaurant critic. After a bumpy start (at the end of her very first on-the-job dinner, her credit card is unceremoniously rejected), she is soon visiting restaurants all over the world in search of a meal to write home about.

I love this book.
Revisado: 11-08-24
I love this book. It’s another great memoir by Ruth Reichl that lets me ease into her experiences like an invited guest. The performance is good. The only thing I don’t like is I wish it had one more chapter continuing the story.

Sublime
Revisado: 03-10-24
Kate Redding is the most perfect fit for this character. It’s perhaps the best audiobook casting ever. The book itself is fun to read, but Ms Redding really brings it alive. She sounds like Kick. In spite of the years that have passed, I fervently hope the rest of the books in the Kick Keswick series can be made into audiobooks with Kate Redding. Like Kick with her high standards, this series deserves the very best.
Note: there is a decent amount of swearing and references to sex but nothing too graphic.

Revisado: 08-09-23
This sequel to the first book is so well done in every way. My kids loved this story, and I did, too. This story is appropriate for all ages and a lot of fun. We’ll listen to it again sometime.

A great story for kids
Revisado: 04-30-23
I listened to this with my 14 year old, 12 year old, and 10 year old, and they all were captivated until the end. I also enjoyed the story. Both the story and performance are well-done, and there’s nothing inappropriate for kids. Highly recommended.

Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery, to the latest, coolest pram, to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician. Narrator choice is all wrong, but story is great
Revisado: 09-09-22
I agree with the Many reviews saying it yet the narrator choice is not at all good. It’s distracting to keep switching narratives, Emily Gray IS the BEST Becky, and the narrator choice just isn’t a good fit for the book. The performance sounds soooo detached from every other narration and frankly is distracting. Becky sounds weird. Luke *does* sound like a stuffy British guy! The narrator doesn’t make a realistic Becky. She isn’t untalented generally, but a very poor fit. Just like the narrator of the Little Lady series. The wrong choice ruins it. Please re-record this, ideally with Emily Gray! Why wasn’t she picked for Every Shopaholic book?

A fascinating and tragic story
Revisado: 01-02-22
I have followed the Jennifer Keese story for years, always hoping she will be found. I was so interested to hear this podcast. I found it very engaging and full of new information I hadn’t known. Unfortunately, the version on Audible had a recording of the same episode for every “episode,” so I had to listen to it through another provider. If Audible fixes that, I recommend it.

Fantastic book for kids and families!
Revisado: 07-30-21
My kids and I listened to this book in pieces on a road trip, and they were captivated. I enjoyed it as well. I agree with the reviewers that said how refreshing it is to have a true kids book where all the content is kid-appropriate! No language or adult situations though there is some suspense and peril for the main character. Very fun, funny, and has a happy ending.

Revisado: 02-23-21
I LOVE this podcast! It's aptly titled: Dr. Ray presents well-ordered information on how to break through self-sabotage. Everything she says is useful, interesting, and strikes a chord in me. She also has a pleasant voice to listen to. The only terrible thing is that it's not available for purchase. (Audible, PLEASE make this available through credit or purchase!!!) It's the kind of podcast I want to listen to over and over. If you've ever thought to yourself, "Why am I my own worst enemy/why do I sabotage myself, and how can I stop doing this?" this is the listen for you.

Terrific kids story!
Revisado: 07-25-19
This Audible production is extremely well-done. I enjoyed listening to it, and the kids ages 8-11 were riveted. The story was good if, at places, slightly implausible, and the acting was energetic and fun to listen to. It was perfect for car rides. Younger than 7 years old might get bored near the end because they might not understand the descriptions of what's happening. I appreciated that it was a long-ish story since I spent a credit on it. I'll be looking for more Audible Originals and more books by this author!
