Historia
New York City medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton return in this stunning novel from the “master of the medical thriller” (New York Times)—a ripped-from-the-headlines tale of an innovative doctor’s dangerous downward spiral.

Laughable
Revisado: 10-12-07
Although Cook did a lot of research and included vast amounts of little known medical info, his character development was very poor. The cast of hoodlums would have been better used in a comedy routine. His lame use of just about every mafia stereotype known to man became old and bordered on ethnic insult.
The book has a potentially good plot. However, I feel that the storyline was not well developed. It seemed as if I were sailing through a medical text with a little bit of fiction thrown in here and there. The epilogue managed to tie the loose threads together, but failed to weave a good book.
This is definitely RC's worst book to date.

Historia
This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

Forever book
Revisado: 08-02-07
Enough cannot be said about the quality of the writing and narration. Those points alone would make this a must read. But, the insight into people, places, life, and spirituality make this a book that will stay with you and change your life forever. I can't wait for the sequel. I just hope it is 143 hours long.

Historia
In the midst of a savage Minnesota blizzard, investigative reporter Rick Beanblossom receives an anonymous note much like the one the Lindbergh family received when their infant son was kidnapped. Fighting the perilous weather and racing against time, Beanblossom desperately searches for clues in history's most infamous kidnapping that may solve his own painful loss.

Addictive
Revisado: 08-30-06
Brilliant and moody, it skillfully blends past and present, history and fiction to the point that the edges blur. The narrator's weary, plaintive reading perfectly reflects the characters portrayed. Excellent!

Historia
In 1866, 12 men and women and one small child were forced aboard a leaky schooner and cast away to a natural prison on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Two weeks later, a dozen others were exiled, and then 40 more, and then 100 more. Tracked by bounty hunters and torn screaming from their families, the luckless were loaded into shipboard cattle stalls and abandoned in a lawless place where brutality held sway. Many did not have leprosy, and most of those who did were not contagious.

Bad history lesson
Revisado: 05-22-06
I love a good historical novel, but this book is like the worst, most boring history lesson you ever had to endure. It throws dates, names, and events at you in a rushed, often disorganized manner, and devotes little to the character of the people it tells of. If you like to read facts and dates, you will probably like this one. But, if you want to feel history come alive, pass this one up.

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself.

His perfect exit novel.
Revisado: 10-19-05
If rumors are true, this could well be King's last novel. And he pulled the ultimate surprise on his readers. As expressed in this book, a finished story with all the loose ends tied up neatly makes people happy. An unsolved mystery, though, leaves people unsettled and craving. This book is an example of the premise of its storyline. Read it, grouse about it, but then notice how your mind keeps worrying it and turning it over and over and over....
If you want one of those nice neat packages, this book isn't for you. But, if you want a REAL mystery (ala King style) grab this one.

Historia
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: 23 of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.

Who reads this kind of stuff????????
Revisado: 09-27-05
This book is all about gratuitous gore and grossness. That there are actually people who enjoy this type of trash encourages me to triple lock my doors. If you want a good read, pass this one up.
