Great escape...

Great escape on a number of levels, age, time, place and attitude. The protaganist here is a somewhat unlikeable 17 year old; smart, angry, a bit redundant but fascinating. (Like many of us if we look back honestly). I got a feel for revolutionary France and the perspective from the "Royal's" point of view. Was reminded just how much a 17 year old knows and feels. Good narration with a couple accent slips but easy to follow.

Her dad was off somewhere, gambling or "working." And Zippy was lost in her own fabulous world of exploring the fringes of Moorland, Indiana.

Just plain entertaining,,

This was like reminiscing with an old friend about the stuff you did and thought when you were a kid. I listen to books while I excercise and I found myself ruining my pace several times because I was giggling. Nothing heavy here, but surprisingly thought provoking and nostalgic.

This is more like listening to an exercise fanatic discuss her regime than a scientific expose. As a fellow fanatic, her questions made sense as did her search for perfect workouts. I really enjoyed the listen, but can understand where some might be disappointed.

Good storyline, but loses something in narration

It's a bit Avatar-esque and the protaganist is charming but redundant. (just like an old guy) The "he said, she said" interjections get old and are unnecessary as the narrator does a decent job of identifying the speakers. Enjoyed the story and looked forward to the next chapters

Escape into a new world..

I finished this book and wanted to run out and create "the perfect scent". This book touches on various areas, both human and commercial within the perfume industry. Simultanously objectively investigative and lovingly "inside" the business makes for an educational, but fun listen. There's some science, some business, and some "People Magazine" aspects that kept my interest.

Protaganist was simultaneously pitiful and hopeful. The human spirit is displayed in a painful, yet oddly humorous fashion. The narrator captures the attitude and personalities of the charactors perfectly.
