Historia
Art & Fear explores the way art gets made, the reasons it often doesn't get made, and the nature of the difficulties that cause so many artists to give up along the way. This is a book about what it feels like to sit in your studio or classroom, at your wheel or keyboard, easel or camera, trying to do the work you need to do. It is about committing your future to your own hands, placing free will above predestination, choice above chance. It is about finding your own work.

Historia
For decades, a quartet of Chinese women who have emigrated to San Francisco gather to eat dim sum, play mahjong, and talk—they call themselves the Joy Luck Club. Over the years, their stories have informed the lives of four daughters who feel the weight of family and world history on their shoulders. With wit and sensitivity, this novel explores the deep, complicated, and sometimes painful connections between mothers and daughters.

Great book
Revisado: 01-15-22
Very interesting and touching book. Me and my 11 y/o daughter listened together. She said I am so thankful for having a mom like you instead of any of the ladies in the book. I was laughing. I told her the writer is her grandma’s age and the writer’s mom is your great grandma’s age. They were all brave and wonderful women who truly restarted their life here in US. Whatever they left behind we can’t imagine. Whatever they experienced we can’t bear. They all had a legendary life.

Historia
Four Chinese women, drawn together by the shadow of their past, meet in San Francisco to play mah jong, invest in stocks, eat dim sum, and to "say" stories to each other. Nearly 40 years later, one of the women has died, and her daughter arrives to take her place. However, the daughter never expected to learn of her mother's secret lifelong wish - and the tragic way in which it has come true. The revelation creates among the women an urgent need to remember the past.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Great book, great reading and great listening
Revisado: 04-05-21
I watched the show on Netflix first. It was a great show. I like every part of the show, the main actors, the stories, the clothes and all the details. I have to say I enjoyed this book and this reading even more. English is my second language and I am not quite familiar with chess. I like the speed how Amy Landon read through the whole book. She makes it very easy for me to understand the book and the chess terminology. I enjoyed her pitch, her tone and her emotional narration the whole time. It was very peaceful and feels like she was there guiding me through the whole scene from the story. Thanks.
