Historia
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

Anything but Jake's market.
Revisado: 06-11-24
The book basically takes the outlined premise that starts out with and locks it in the basement chained up to a radiator and occasionally comes downstairs to Beat It with a garden hose.
it wastes no time going from what sounds like a cozy Adventure to some kind of Fairly generic somewhat gritty a story about defying fate and the gods and all that crap.
I could really go for that kind of story, but only if that's what I thought I was buying.

Historia
Autistic scientist Yasira Shien has developed a radical new energy drive that could change the future of humanity. But when she activates it, reality warps, destroying the space station and everyone aboard. The AI gods who rule the galaxy declare her work heretical, and Yasira is abducted by their agents. Instead of simply executing her, they offer mercy - if she'll help them hunt down a bigger target: her own mysterious, vanished mentor. With her homeworld's fate in the balance, Yasira must choose who to trust: the gods and their ruthless post-human angels, or a rebel scientist....

Another toothless take on cosmic horror.
Revisado: 10-25-22
I have no idea if this was the author's intention or not, but the Eldredge means from outside the universe have about as much overall impact on me as a reader as hearing that a character passed gas.
I get the idea is that the protagonist actually works with them, so they can't be some sort of inherently evil thing, but even so there's just no personality to them.
the overall depictions of Madness in this book seem more like minor mental health issues in the grand scheme of things, spoken as a person with several of them chronically.
if you're expecting any sort of cosmic horror out of this book, don't pick it up. if you want a slightly different science fiction take on creepy monsters from outside our dimension, maybe this will work for you.

Historia
When Gyre Price lied her way into this expedition, she thought she’d be mapping mineral deposits and that her biggest problems would be cave collapses and gear malfunctions. She also thought that the fat paycheck - enough to get her off-planet and on the trail of her mother - meant she’d get a skilled surface team, monitoring her suit and environment, keeping her safe. Keeping her sane. Instead, she got Em. Em sees nothing wrong with controlling Gyre’s body with drugs or withholding critical information to “ensure the smooth operation” of her expedition.

The indefinitely long boring cave is a metaphor.
Revisado: 05-25-22
The entire story drug on three times aso g as it needed to, in a dull, lifeless dezcribed cave. Protagonist spends the whole time sabotaging herself, and causing almost all of her problems.
Despite the premise, it's just two people in drab, lifeless bath water sci fi arguing with eachother and being shitty.
It goes on forever, repeating the same lines of thinking, over and over again with very little variation. Perhaps the poorly described cave as a metaphor for the story as a whole.

Historia
Halmey Dz and her partner, Connla Kurucz, are salvage operators, living just on the inside of the law...usually. Theirs is the perilous and marginal existence - with barely enough chance of striking it fantastically big - just once - to keep them coming back for more. They pilot their tiny ship into the scars left by unsuccessful White Transitions, searching for the relics of lost human and alien vessels. But when they make a shocking discovery about an alien species that has been long thought dead, it may tip the perilous peace mankind has found into full-out war.

journey to a fantastic world devoid a pacing
Revisado: 12-24-19
I really wanted to write this book very highly, because there's some extremely interesting elements to it. but the twisting plot is incredibly unlikely, and the pacing is absolutely abysmal in the middle.
I think I may have actually long for death at some point.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Necromancers, Intrigue, mystery and death.
Revisado: 10-26-19
This book could be a little slow at times, but I wouldn't trade those moments for anything.
I've seen a few one star reviews that complain the plot is hard to follow, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to be half listening to miss the character nuances, or overall plot.

Terrible new narrator.
Revisado: 10-16-19
The narrator clearly didn't listen to any of the previous books, and doesn't even try to go for the same feel for any of the previous characters, and it's incredibly jarring.

I wanted to love it.
Revisado: 05-10-19
I know it's supposed to be an entirely new kind of MMO, but it just feels heinously dated aside from being a virtual reality game.
aside from a few nebulous quests in the game, all the characters seem to be doing is running around and power grinding mobs, which is something MMOs haven't done in over a decade, and they almost immediately start jumping into raid content that's meant for level 10 to 15 players. Just feels weird.
there is so little mention of the sort of skills they're using, or the Spells they get as they level up, and their lack of enthusiasm will gushing about them but it doesn't really feel black the author has ever played MMOs, or is convinced that readers would think those kinds of details are boring.
the author keeps talking about how interesting the world is to the players, and how drawn in they were, and how real it was. But there just wasn't any actual draw behind told there was draw
it's really disappointing considering how much I was looking forward to a litrpg book with a female protagonist.
