Retired SEAL John Eric Carver and his war dog, Shrek, are part of a small group of survivors in a world where a man-made virus has ravished the planet. Isolated at a Boy Scout camp in the mountains outside of San Diego, the small cadre of warriors have kept their isolated community safe. But supplies are running out, and a team is put together to venture into the abandoned cities. As they leave their sanctuary, they find the virus continues to mutate. Carver and Shrek soon confront an intelligent and powerful new Alpha Variant - a beast that is unlike any other they’ve encountered.

An all too believable story!
Revisado: 07-01-15
What did you love best about Revenge and Retribution?
The parallels to current events and actions provide a very believable story. The portrayal of governmental agencies and corporations and the power they project is scary and believable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The range of characters and the descriptive personalities provide several choices, but the mysterious Vorlock was perhaps the most intriguing.
Have you listened to any of Kevin Clay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kevin is an excellent narrator and makes for enjoyable listening.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Sadly, I view the scenario presented as all too believable.
Any additional comments?
I believe that the universe is vast enough to actually make this all very plausible

Historia
The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In the third book in the series, James McGill is deployed on another alien world. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he’s headed to an advanced world.

third book in series disappointing
Revisado: 10-25-14
Would you try another book from B.V. Larson and/or Mark Boyett?
His earlier star force series was excellent, and the first two books in this series were quite good. I was disappointed with this book and actually had to force myself to finish it !
What do you think your next listen will be?
I will continue with several other series I have listened to as they are released, but I'm not sure about this one !
What does Mark Boyett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mark does an excellent job

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Although depressing, one of the best books written
Revisado: 10-12-14
Would you listen to One Second After again? Why?
I will listen to this book, although that is something I rarely do.
What did you like best about this story?
The setting of this story blends the interaction of metropolitan, urban, and rural life, as well as the interaction of several groups, professionals, politicians, military, students, business, and just plain everyday folks , as well as the seedy underbelly of ne'er do wells.
What does Joe Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The inflections of the performers added credence to the events as they happened.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have to say this book makes me sad, anxious, and mad at the same time. I think it is not only plausible, but highly likely, as the author points out. The point mentioned about money spent on global warming, yet not spent on defense, is very current and applicable !
Any additional comments?
It is very easy to find yourself depressed and anxious after this book, but without a doubt, this is and should be at the top of ANY listeners list !

Historia
We colonized 700 planets. Humankind enjoyed the benefits of expansion room and the end of wars. We even disbanded our military. Then the Krall found us. The Krall have used thousands of years of combat to select the genes of the strongest and fastest warriors. They are a species determined to dominate the entire galaxy, through destruction and annihilation of every opponent.
Koban is an uninhabited high-gravity planet with impossibly fast savage animals, which employ organic superconducting nerves. This deadly world is where the Krall tested humans for war capability.

Surprisingly suspensive !
Revisado: 07-03-14
What made the experience of listening to Koban, Book 1 the most enjoyable?
The development and explanation of the characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Without a doubt, the captain of the flight of fancy.
Which scene was your favorite?
The way the captain handled and managed to manipulate the Krall to the advantage of the captives.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The test of the captain.
Any additional comments?
In the beginning, the story starts slow, but then holds you in anticipation of the coming events.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

- Old Man's War
- De: John Scalzi
- Narrado por: William Dufris
a must read !
Revisado: 02-05-14
What did you love best about Old Man's War?
Scalzi has nailed it with this first person narrative.
What did you like best about this story?
This story portrays the base beliefs of many sci fi folks in the beliefs of a soul, and how we might interact with other races that we might meet in the future, as well as humanity itself.
It is a military/combat work, it portrays the interaction of individuals on a level not often achieved.
What about William Dufris’s performance did you like?
Durfris's reading is indeed a performance, as usual, accurately portraying the characters as the author intended.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is extremely easy to put yourself in the story, and feel the pain, shock, and emotions of the characters.
Any additional comments?
I would rate this as one of, if not possibly most enjoyable sci fi experiences I have evr had. This book would make an extremely good movie script !
