Historia
Never had there been as close a bonding as the one that existed between the daring and adventurous young Lord Jaxom and his extraordinary white dragon, Ruth. Pure white and incredibly agile, Ruth was a dragon of many talents, though almost everyone on Pern thought he was a runt that would never amount to anything. But Jaxom knew better.

Just Bad writing
Revisado: 06-23-24
When this book came out it might have been interesting due to the subject matter and the lack of decent fantasy but seriously pass on this book. The writing is terrible the storyline is ridiculous in the plot holes a large enough to drive a truck through.

Historia
MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan isn’t one to avoid arguments. He relishes them as the lifeblood of democracy and the only surefire way to establish the truth. Arguments help us solve problems, uncover new ideas we might not have considered, and nudge our disagreements toward mutual understanding. A good argument, made in good faith, has intrinsic value—and can also simply be fun.

Rhetoric as Street fighting
Revisado: 05-26-23
To be fair I am an instructor of public speaking and therefore have a definite bias, but Mr. Hassan is straightforward about the fact that he is not writing a textbook rather a guide to win at all costs. Thusly he gives a series of effective tips for persuasion and argumentation. This is a book of sophistry in its most fundamental meaning and while I don't think there's anything wrong with that I do embrace a larger understanding of purpose to communication most especially argumentation and persuasion. That being said his research is thorough his tactics effective and his emphasis on doing your homework exemplary. I would be lying if I said that some of this material is not going to work its way into the courses I teach, but I would hesitate at recommending the book to students at least not until the end of the semester with a clear warning of its focus on winning rather than creating meaning.

Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Dresden Goes Back to his Roots
Revisado: 08-08-22
Fun novels that steps back into Dresden as white Knight formula. it's quick listen or read and Jim Butch's narration on the audio is a nice change of pace but I'm glad I won't have to get used to it.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Ham Handed & Predictable
Revisado: 07-10-22
I thought I would enjoy this book given a general love of history, specifically the WPA and American struggles. I found this to be almost unbearable in the predictability of the story, the way over the top dramatics and a story that can simply be summed up with the author's term "a river of sorrows." unless you really enjoy stories in which one bad thing after another before some poor character and the details of history are scant and occasionally incorrect I suggest you pass on this and just look for a good history of either the WPA or the Kentucky blue people.

Historia
This is an easily digestible argument about what rights we have, what rights Republicans are trying to take away, and how to stop them. Mystal explains how to protect the rights of women and people of color instead of cowering to the absolutism of gun owners and bigots. He explains the legal way to stop everything from police brutality to political gerrymandering, just by changing a few judges and justices. He strips out all of the fancy jargon conservatives like to hide behind and lays bare the truth of their project to keep America forever tethered to its slaveholding past.

Not your run of the middle legal analysis but no surprise if you've ever read Elie's writing. This alternate reading of the Constitution is with paying strong attention to especially for people who are part of a dominant majority. I could say more than other people and sure will give better detailed analysis all I can say is it's worth taking your time and paying attention to. if you can catch the audio version is delivery makes it 10 times more entertaining.

Fascinating Biography: Annoying Audiobook
Revisado: 01-02-21
I downloaded the audiobook because I thought having Johnny Depp is a narrator would add something to the work. But the multiple narrators and off and on accent of Depp's was just kind of annoying. As a book, while I could do without all of the Soap Opera and bragging, the discussion of music, guitar styles and the insights of Keith Richard's make it worth the effort. The man has had a remarkable life but there is a hint of unreliable narrator that is somewhat confirmed by the use of witness accounts to some of his story. For the most part this adds to the fun of the tale and any fan of Keith or the Stones should love this book.

In Compromised, Strzok draws on lessons from a long career - from his role in the Russian illegals case that inspired The Americans to his service as lead FBI agent on the Mueller investigation - to construct a devastating account of foreign influence at the highest levels of our government. And he grapples with a question that should concern every U.S. citizen: When a president appears to favor personal and Russian interests over those of our nation, has he become a national security threat?

Donald Trump up close and impersonal
Revisado: 09-22-20
Srzok's discussion of the crossfire hurricane investigation it's direct and insightful. While the far right conspiracy theoristable scream like they always have about some kind of deep State and hidden agenda, this book searches a reminder of the professionalism and dedication of the FBI. In an era where opinion focused cable programming is increasingly a postmodern exercise in political justification this is a fine reminder that facts matter. There is a real world or real things happen it has a country of laws those things should have consequences. Sadly in an era where will to power has replaced real world assessment and a desire to actually govern. Those with power do not seem to face the consequences that the rule of law demands. while those who stand tall and support of a nation of laws become targets for text based on distorted information and outright lies. compromised goes into a detailed discussion of exactly how investigations into both Hillary Clinton's emails and Donald Trump's deals with the Russians were conducted why and how. the fact that there's something in here for almost everybody to hate is a good sign that it's probably telling the truth.

Revisado: 08-27-20
Benen's book gives a very plausible and low research explanation for the inexplicable lack of leadership Republican show when they have power. The book really is a must read book not so much for liberals who are curious about Republicans failures, but rather for Republicans who would like to see a party that accomplishes meaningful goals.
