Not a good listen
Revisado: 06-13-08
Just finished listening to "Savannah Blues" on tape with Susan Ericksen as the reader. I loved it! So I did not even do the sample listen for this one because if I had I never would have purchased it. The other reader made you feel as if you were in the middle of Savannah....this one makes you wish you were in the middle of a lake drowning! This would have been more enjoyable as a real book read.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

a bit depressing
Revisado: 01-28-08
Great narration. Good ending. It took almost all of part one to get me interested though. I don't like hearing about animal cruelty and human cruelty both of which are prevalent in this book. A depressing look at aging as well. It just wasn't in my top 25.

I thought I was going to dislike the audio at first. The use of "I said","he said","she said" was off the scale! But I actually got used to it very quickly and totally enjoyed the book. I will read another by this author and reader-I think I'm hooked!
