OMFG. A friend of mine *read* this and was like, "meh." Come ON!! Why would you ever opt to read this when you can listen to the Goddess read ("read" is hilarious b/c I think she just has vague notes in front of her & ad-libs from memory for MOST of this, plus tells stries that ARE NOT in the print copy! Like the part about Boston & old doors!!!!)
I laughed, I DEFINITELY cried - Leslie effing SOBS many times during this recording & it's heartbreaking... the freaking CREDITS made me cry! - I've never seen Cats, but that's because Prufrock and Ash Wednesday were better.

i can't say I enjoyed learning all the ways a government full of corrupt bloody-minded criminals nearly got away with incompetence-ing the legislative branch of the US. But it's an important document. Can't wait for the movie.

Listening to this in 2023 is painful because Pete was clearly a canary in the deep dark coal mine of the dystopia of the last 8 years. It's amazing to hear his restraint and seething frustration now that we get to hear him weekly (or more often) in podcasts like Cleanup on Aisle 45 where he can speak even more freely. He is an officer, agent, & gentleman and everyone should read this book.

Tre'vell is one of my favorite news podcasters & I was so excited to listen to their audiobook specifically. As a cis-het whyte lady of nearly 50 years of age, I knew some of these names & stories. I have now been to SCHOOL. I've lived in the midst of the east coast liberal elite since I moved to Massachusetts in 1993, have known & loved queer & trans people for 30 years, but this book was a masterclass. Thank you, Tre'vell. Catch you on the WAD squad tomorrow. Mwah.

I couldn't get past Chapter 4. The reader's early mispronunciation of Wampanaug bothered me, as well as the heavy anglicisation of so many other words had me on edge. Then the constant repetition of the word "primitive" amd the demeaning of the Comanche & other Plains people made me sick. i want my credit back. Ugh.

I kept falling asleep. The reader wasn't coached on Irish words. There are zero women characters with any power or agency, only wife-damsels in distress or minor throw-away NPCs. Unsurprisingly this was written by a boomer. Meh. Lots of good mythology that I'm sure fanfic writers have VASTLY improved upon. OK story, I guess.
