Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Essential American Story of Progress
Revisado: 07-14-13
Where does The Warmth of Other Suns rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've been doing a lot of reading of our American History over the last few years, really trying to get a better sense of how we got to where we are. This book brings into the light the changes of one segment of our society into the fabric of the growth of many of our cities in the North and West.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All the characters were wonderful in their own right. After 1,200+ interviews, selecting down to 36 or so people to tell the story, and then to the final 3 in the book, the stories of hardships and drive to make progress are the essence of the maturity that our nation has seen over many decades. It also places in perspective of how we need to continue to mature and make real the words of our founding fathers, (and finally live up to the ideas that were not implemented at the founding of the nation)
Have you listened to any of Robin Miles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Wonderful presentation. The voices, the clarity made the whole narrative come alive.

Historia
On the 78th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one knew what had just happened at 8:46 a.m. that morning, September 11, 2001. Blind since birth, Michael couldn’t see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle’s judgment and not to panic. They were a team....

Very interesting, and humbling
Revisado: 05-25-12
More than just a man and his dog, provides insight into the challenges facing the blind, and their connection to the dogs that provide them with the mobility to go out into the world. Well worth the read.

Historia
In eight incantatory sections, The Buddha in the Attic traces the extraordinary lives of young Japanese brides, from their arduous journey by boat, where they exchange photographs of their husbands, imagining uncertain futures in an unknown land; to their arrival in San Francisco and their tremulous first nights as new wives; to their backbreaking work picking fruit in the fields and scrubbing the floors of white women; to their struggles to master a new language and a new culture; to their experiences in childbirth, and then as mothers....

Eclectic & Insightful

Well presented in a collage method sort of way. Was insightful into a whole different era, culture, and challenges. Really enjoyed it and the reading.

The era of hope and change is dead...and it only took six months in office to kill it. Never has an administration taken office with more inflated expectations of turning Washington around. Never have a media-anointed American Idol and his entourage fallen so fast and hard.

Good book... tough to listen to narrator
Revisado: 02-03-12
Actually it's pretty depressing to listen to non-stop well researched details on politician corruption. While this identifies the Obama sphere, you can't help to think if this is just "politician" in any form being the culprit. Out only to line their pockets. Our constitutional fore-fathers are rolling in their graves, I'm sure.
Problem with this audio book is the narrator. His diction is so "un-crisp" as to make it a strain to listen to and understand all his words. Really surprising they didn't get a better audio presenter.

Historia
The Huck Finn of foreign correspondents provides a colorful account of old Honolulu, the island nobility, the City of Refuge on the Kona coast, and the active volcano of Kilauea. These selections of Mark Twain's newspaper dispatches are both charming and informative. The light touch of the great humorist is seldom missing as he reveals the "loveliest fleet of islands that lie anchored in any ocean".

Snapshot of Hawaii...from the words of Mark Twain!
Revisado: 12-26-11
If you love Hawaii...this is a wonderful book to give you a sense of what it was like back in 1866. It comes alive in Mark Twain's writings. This audio book was well read in the style of Mark Twain. Would recommend it highly.

Unique Perspective
Revisado: 12-20-11
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this for the shear uniqueness of the subject. Really does fit well with what I kept hearing references to in historical books on these various beverages, but provides a much more comprehensive viewpoint.
