Historia
Will Freeman may have discovered the key to dating success: If the simple fact that they were single mothers meant that gorgeous women - women who would not ordinarily look twice at Will - might not only be willing, but enthusiastic about dating him, then he was really onto something. Single mothers - bright, attractive, available women - thousands of them, were all over London. He just had to find them.

I made myself listen to this book although I’m not sure why. I was thinking something would happen but very little does. I realize the author is trying to explore many issues but they are presented in a way that I found uninteresting. It never grabbed me.

Emma and Dex, Dex and Emma…
Revisado: 09-07-21
Overall, this is a pretty good book. My problem with it was how long it was and how many issues the characters had and kept repeating. I was pretty tired of hearing about the poor choices one of the characters makes over and over. The two main characters are the story and I got bored with them. However, the writing is very good for the most part which is why I finished the book.

Great sequel
Revisado: 02-13-16
Christopher Moore is a gem. I loved the characters from A Dirty Job (my favorite of all of his books) and it's wonderful to have them back. The narrator, Fisher Stevens is a perfect Charlie and his comedic timing is incredible. He also captures all of the other characters spot on. He is so good that I could tell by his voice who was speaking without needing anyone identified. Liked it so much I've purchased the book to read. If you want a laugh out loud read, listen to this book!

Don't do it,
Revisado: 02-13-16
I couldn't get through this book. It was painful to listen to and I tried several times. Kept hoping something of interest would happen and have finally come to my senses. Fortunately it was free or I would have definitely returned it. Heard the Rock Chick series which seemed to have been by a different author. Those were fun books. Don't waste a credit on this one.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Interesting but a little slow.
Revisado: 10-17-15
This is a fantasy, of course and there were some sweet parts. It's an interesting idea but was slow for my tastes which made the book even longer than its nearly 20 hours.
George Guidall does an amazing job as always. His voice is unique in my opinion. He changes his vocal quality that seems like sharpness to portray different characters. It's subtle but effective.
If you want to read a book about a golem, read "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay". I believe it won a Pulitzer and I found it much more engaging. But I am a big fan of Michael Chabon.

But Doug has other things on his mind. First there's his 16-year-old stepson, Russ - a once-sweet kid who now is getting into increasingly serious trouble on a daily basis. And then there are Doug's sisters.

The Characters Have Character
Revisado: 10-06-13
Jonathan Tropper created such memorable characters, I can't seem to shake them and I'm hopeful he'll write about them again. The book was wonderful -- he captured how annihilating losing a spouse can be. There are some very poignant moments. The family was a stitch as well as a heart breaker.
I have read Tropper's books and find them hysterical and thought-provoking. I listened to one other of Tropper's which was narrated by Scott Brick. He is a very talented and popular narrator. However, in my opinion, he does not have comedic timing. Eric Ruben, on the other hand, is terrific and I found myself laughing out loud many times. He was excellent. He really added to the book and I'm hopeful that future books by this author will be read by Ruben or others rather than using Brick.
This is a book I will listen to again and encourage you to spend the credit.

Historia
Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

Read this book -- don't listen
Revisado: 08-11-13
Another zany adventure from Hiaasen. Not my favorite, but that could be due to the narrator. He has a sort of New York accent. He'd probably be great reading Elmore Leonard's work but he doesn't fit here. It's a shame. So I'd say don't miss it, just don't listen to it. I'm going to read it and I think I'll enjoy it more.

The Family Business features two times the heat, two times the fun, and two times the drama as the members of an unforgettable family (not to mention their lovers and hangers-on) find their way in and out of trouble. As their many fans will attest, Weber and Pete share a talent for penning juicy fiction that their audience can’t get enough of.

Tough Listen
Revisado: 06-27-13
The positive part of this book is the performance. I enjoyed all of the narrators. And there's a great twist in the story.
However for me, it's difficult to listen when I don't like any of the characters in the book. They are really hateful, antisocial people. The youngest daughter doesn't seem believable at all. Very one dimensional. The family's mother is a bit redeeming. Overall, these are not people I wanted to get to know. I continued to listen, however as I wanted to learn whether what goes around would come around in this tale.
Cannot recommend this one.

If you want to laugh, read this book
Revisado: 06-27-13
Tina Fey can write...and read. She was a great narrator of her very funny book. In fact, I think listening to her probably made the book much better than reading it. I'm still laughing thinking about some of her descriptions.
I enjoyed the peek behind the scenes and learning about the actors as people. And since reading the book, have watched and appreciated 30 Rock. She is candid in relating personal details about her birth family as well as her husband and daughter. In fact, I think I want to be her best friend.
Listening to the video in the book is a bonus. And be sure and download the PDF.

Courldn't Get Through It
Revisado: 03-24-13
I couldn't listen to this book. I found it boring, didn't like the narration, and found it dragged. I see where others have said it picks up a little, but I couldn't wait for it. Audible and I have been attached for several years and this is only the second book I couldn't get through.
