captivating storyline

What an amazing piece literature. To follow this Story from beginning to end moves your soul through so much sorrow and devastation. The writing was so beautifully done and the voiceover was perfect. Understanding what's some of these women have gone through and getting just the smallest glimpse of the Horrors from Vietnam has given me such appreciation for that generation and what they've had to endure. My father is a veteran from the Vietnam War and while he doesn't talk about it I now have very small understanding of a very small piece of his experience.

I have long been a fan of the SYSK Podcast and hearing them in this audio book was just like listening to series of "Shorts" from the beloved podcast. I did miss their banter, however, true to form the topics were interesting and informative. Thanks again guys, you make many pieces of my week very enjoyable.

Fantastic and captivating production

The story itself is the wonderful classic we know and love, and this reading with the many different voices for each character brings a wonderful charm so that you can't help but lose yourself in the story all over again. Bravo!

At long last, a full and honest truth that holds no punches. It's almost as if Candace reached into the deepest areas of my mind regarding these topics and put my thoughts into eloquently worded and data driven statements. Thank you Candace, you are not alone in these views, here's to a blackout!

Disappointed

Being a minority woman myself, I was listening to this book with the assumption that I would be able to relate in part to her story as there is already commonality there. I had hoped for inspiration and wisdom. Her childhood and humble beginnings were exactly in line with this hope and well done, however, throughout the book I began to notice how it was seemingly necessary for her to point out her race as well as the race of others (who were typically the same as hers) as she made positive character references of them. Why did their race matter? Isn't a good person a good person? I began to realize that the further into the book I was, I was constantly reminded of this as well as political leanings and how awful she viewed the group of individuals that weren't politically aligned. At the end, I was disappointed and felt out casted.

Loved this book.

It's devastating what these kids go though and I held out hope until the bitter end. Places like the childrens home in the book are appalling but fascinating to learn about. So very sad.

A Man Called Ove, whom stole my heart.

I can pinpoint the exact moment in this book where Ove stole my heart. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but blocking the Mercedes from a parking spot on principles is where I decided I loved him.
This book was heartwarming and endearing in so many ways, the characters are all vital, down to the cat.
One of my favorites, so much so that I started over at chapter 35, so that my husband could listen with me.
