darn good
Revisado: 04-07-25
I have to admit was QUITE put off when a breakdown happened. I was like "WTF is happening!?" and considered passing on the book. it wasn't so far in that I had a significant committed a significant amount of time. However, I am glad I continued. Author did a great job with tension, twists, mystery, and make an ensemble cast that I enjoyed witnessing whenever I got their perspecrive.
also bravo on ensuring I must see what happens next.

two of the most annoying MCs ever
Revisado: 03-05-25
MCs are annoying. Sporadic whimsy and some really poetic moments generally keep me wanting to continue. Author knows how to world build and setup interest in subsequent books.

decent
Revisado: 02-27-25
Decent but it took way to long to grab my interest. it took me nearly a month to finish because just wasn't interested for so long. I'm betting it was nearly halfway through this audiobook before I stopped wondering if I was going to finish or more likely stop drifting to other things (podcasts, YouTube, re-listens on Audible, etc.)

After fulfilling the duty all Arch Necromancers are tasked with, the last thing Sylver Sezari expected was to be reborn. He was usually the one reanimating dead things, after all. How ironic. But reborn he was. And after crawling his way back into the land of the living, he finds himself in a strange land, a strange time, and with a strange floating screen in front of his new face. Either through plan or chance, he’s alive again, and planning to enjoy himself to his heart's content.

I think I like this overall. it does a great job of making an OP MC make sense. He was challenging at times for me to root for but I think having all 4 books made me want to continue I otherwise I think I might've only read 1 - 2 books. Either way good value. I like the narrator.

In his past life, Dollar was an unparalleled mind forged by the flames of tribulation. He'd built his wealth and influence from nothing and never looked back. But after dying and reincarnating into the world of Ioa, he is thrust into poverty and trapped in a forest of flames with nothing but a decrepit wooden hut to protect him.

pretty good
Revisado: 01-16-25
the beginning was rough for me. I liked the premise but this took waaaaaay to long to get to the other world. the beginning started out making the MC have a terrible life. however there was a tonal shift that made him become a successful know it all d-bag. It was bewilderingly unnecessary. furthermore it was so thin I wondered why it went on so long. briefly I thought I might've wanted a better flushed out or longer story of his rise... but no. I nearly dropped the book.
after all that things turned around for me when he went to the new world. much more of a traditional LitRPG/Progress Fantasy. I walso thing the writing got better. the author did what I think he should've done all along: incorporate his lessons and successes from his initial life into situations in his new life.
In My Humble Opinion the author should incorporate what he wanted to convey about the MC's rise and time a the top of the world into the main story. Maybe as I've seen in some other books where the at r1-2 page vignettes before a regular chapter.
long and short. after the painful start the book turned around. I plan to listen to the next one.

I enjoyed this book
Revisado: 10-18-24
Gave me the Shadowrun feel although more heavily on the cultivation aspect of magic. It felt a little cheesy at times, maybe because it was a shorter book. I would've like a longer training/growth arc. Otherwise, it was a good surprise find.

Let Down
Revisado: 10-04-24
Realms 1-8 gave us the growth of challenge and world expansion that felt great. All that build up for the 9th Realm and 10th Realm to be this bland. Feel like Michael Chatfield didn't know where he wanted to go and just contractually had to give the last 2 installments. Just sad.

Historia
Mage Errant: Publisher's Pack contains books one and two of the Mage Errant series: Into the Labyrinth and Jewel of the Endless Erg. Hugh of Emblin is, so far as he's concerned, the worst student that the Academy at Skyhold has ever seen. He can barely cast any spells at all, and those he does cast tend to fail explosively.

Really liked
Revisado: 10-04-24
I enjoyed these two books. I wish the author gave us more detail on the montage of growth sections of the 1st book. (I might regret saying this) in the 1st book I wish that the antagonist and MC had more interactions especially as the MC started finding his place and growing in power. I liked the arc in the 2nd book immensely, however, It serve to highlight how rushed the 1st book was: book 1 felt like the outline of a great book just needing to be flushed out.

Decent LitRPG
Revisado: 10-04-24
I was on the fence with this one. I don't know why but the "Connected System" "The Connection" really just bothers me. Every time it is referenced in the story it annoys me. Trying so hard to NOT call it "The System" like many other LitRPG/GameLit book... it's just so painful. Aside from this, the MC "voice" annoys me. I want to liek him but he's written in a way that I can't (completely) root for him. I do want to see more of how this world comes together, tho.
I think what I need to get past are the parallels in the story to Life in Exile by Sean Osgood. It is another LitRPG/GameLit book where a family gets Isekai'd. That series generally does the family dynamics plus ensemble story better.
[PS J.S. Arquin grated upon me, tho I love him for Path Of Ascension series.]
