Filled with the author’s personal experiences. Unfortunately these experiences form the foundation of her scholarship.

You’re always aware of the narrators “effort” to sound like a character with certain qualities. Given that this is a story told in the first person the narration should sound more natural of voice.
I don’t know if it’s the narration or the writing that gives Molly her anachronistic vocabulary, of course the author wrote the words. Because the narrator always sounds so halting it’s hard to know if Molly expresses herself in remembrance of her grandmother or if Molly hasn’t the capacity to speak in a generationally fitting fashion.
The book may be better off read, creating your own voice for a young woman in Molly’s circumstances.

Fortunately I’d read This Side of Paradise several times before listening to this Audible selection. The narrators forces Ed enunciation strains the ear drawing attention from the authors artful use of language

This Side Of Paradise is a masterpiece. Read through the lens of 21st century events it feels as though the present as collapsed into the 1920’s.

The stories start with Bernice Bobs her Hair a story which paints a graphic mental image of Jazz Era upper middle class mores & taboos. The sincere folly of it all. Fitzgerald uses the written word live a smartphone video. The stories chosen for this short volume are a good sampling of Fitzgerald’s insight into human behaviour & the times in which he lived.
Bronson Pinchot’a narration is perfection. I looked for other books narriated by cousin Balki (yes that Bronson Pinchot). His narrative style reveals the stories. Unlike some narrators who over power the authors written word with a vocal performance.

Who am I to critique F. S. Fitzgerald; Pinchot’s narration will greatly add to your enjoyment of the short stories.
